    2013 Texas Longhorns

I think the offense could be good if the 2nd half of the Alamo Bowl and the things Applewhite has been telling recruits like Dontre Wilson/Roderick Bernard are any indication. More uptempo, expansion of the quick passing game, and spread concepts... also more read option and called QB runs could be in store.

You have to wonder what an entire season's worth of gameplan/execution like we saw against Oregon State would look like.

The offense was rarely the problem last year, though. Diaz needs to get it together. I honestly dont know how he kept his job after leading the worst defense in Texas history. What happened?!? Top 10 to 110th in one season? I hope he can figure out a way to stop the run, but "no se"...

I like the JUCO OL pickup (Dom still going to start?), and I hope the no-huddle helps the entire OL by making the fatties on the other side tire out faster.

Texas looks great on paper and the Big12 looks very winnable next season. Of course, Mack Brown is still HC...

This dudes vids are pretty good

Yeah, about that... **** is going down at UT right now.

OC Applewhite had an affair with a student in 09. Emergency BOR meeting. Looks like he'll get terminated.

Everything I've read since this came out on Applewhite says he's safe as this was dealt with years ago. Any of you guys down there in the Lonestar state hearing anything different? Really hoping he doesn't get canned because of public outcry...

Sounds like none of our recruits pulled a fast one this morning. Sad when this is the most exciting news we can pull off on NSD. No Shiro Davis stuff for us.

Forget Texas. I heard on the 'Chip Brown Show' yesterday this freaky stat. The Big 12 conference as a whole signed 32 four star recruits. Texas ATM and Georgia alone signed 28. The Big 12 signed all of 0 five star recruits as a conference. The SEC signed 17. Of course depending on which service you look at, but damn....get used to teams holding up that SEC banner at BCS title games for awhile.

Top 5 recruiting classes worked out really well for Texas the past few years

                    Re: 2013 Texas Longhorns

I can only handle so much of the Shag's doom-and-gloom attitude about everything, so here goes a bit of discussion.

Sounds like Swoopes is doing well. I'd prefer he redshirt this year and take Ash's senior year (his RS-FR) as a year for him to be the serious backup and garbage time QB, then spend his last three years starting. That's probably the best case scenario for him.

Seems like everyone but Thompson/Philips is doing well on defense with the DTs/LBs showing significant improvement. Let's hope that's not just like last season where spring was a bunch of good news and then we got boned hard in actual games.

Can't wait for the spring game or the fall to get here.

                      Re: 2013 Texas Longhorns

The RB trio is loaded with talent and almost the entire two-deep is back on the offensive line. If Ash improves and plays like he did to finish the Alamo Bowl, the offense will be by far the best sinc Colt left. The defense has 9 returning starters andif they also show significant improvement, Texas will be favored in very game on their schedule. Those are big IFs though.

                        Re: 2013 Texas Longhorns

I'm at the point where unless Texas starts 22 All-Americans, and OU starts 22 walk-ons, OU will win. O.K., probably a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point. And if Texas can't beat OU, they will not win the B12.

That being said, Texas again...will not win the B12. I feel this is Mack Brown's swan song. He no longer has a recruiting grip on Texas. It seems every day I look online, another recruit has decommitted from Texas.

Ash does not inspire me. He is one of those QB's that plays great against lower level competition, but is average at best against the better teams.

I see at least 3 losses this year, sure we have great RB's...but alas, another offensive line that has more holes than a donut factory. And how can anyone be able to forecast what Manny Diaz's defense will do this upcoming season?

I see Texas has a real good chance winning a water down Big XII this season 19 return starters I like the move back 2 the Spread w/no huddle nice trio of RBs I say they should win 10 games

we need 2 beat OU and K-State *end losing streak against them*
                          win the non-conference games

This might be his swan song, but it's not because he has lost his recruiting grip on the state. In 2013 A&M was somehow able to sign 32 players, but if you broke it down to average quality of player Texas "won". So far in 2014 A&M is 3rd and Texas is 4th (http://247sports.com/Season/2014-Foo...teTeamRankings). A&M is coming off their greatest season ever and has the SEC on their side and is barely winning so far this year. Texas will have lost when TCU or Tech pass them up.

Texas' offensive line returns all five starters and they have 124 starts between them which is the most in the country. How do they have more holes than a donut?

They shouldn't have to rely on Ash carrying the team. When you recruit the #1 RB in the nation two years in a row you better be able to run the damn ball.
