USC Trojans Football

Do we have enough fans/haters here for a thread? Preferably more of the former.

JT Daniels was announced as the starter yesterday.

I read a really insightful profile about him on the ringer a little over a week ago: https://www.theringer.com/platform/a...arterback-hype

I feel like we're rebuilding because our fantastic starting offensive backfield is now in the NFL, but we've got experience in the center of the defense with Cameron Smith and Porter Gustin, in the defensive backfield with Imam Marshall and Marvell Tell, and on the offensive line with Toa Lobendahn and Chris Brown. Btw, really like that Marvell Tell has a superhero name. Bill Connelly seems to think Tyler Vaughns and Michael Pittman will be even better than Deontay Burnett and Stephen Mitchell, which makes sense considering Vaughns was #2 in receiving last year.

I think we could go 8-4 or 11-1 this year. We beat Stanford twice and that's probably my favorite stat of last season, but this year we're playing at the Farm and they return the Heisman favorite. Texas took us to the wire when they really had no business doing so, and I expect they'll take a step forward in Herman's second year. And we're going from Palo Alto to Austin in consecutive weeks, then we host Wazzu on a short week. Luckily we get eight days between that game and Tuscon and then two weeks between Arizona and Colorado.

After that, I'm most anxious about playing in Salt Lake and hosting Notre Dame, who are being prepared feverishly by Brian Kelly to make a playoff run. Plus new-look UCLA is sure to be a problem.

I just feel like a fast start is absolutely necessary if we want to be in a playoff discussion near the end of the year, but as always my priorities are rivalries and the conference championship.

I like the way Clay Helton is so much more mild-mannered than the guys that had the job between Carroll and him. So I hope even if we end up 8-4 his seat doesn't get too hot. I just really wanna see another run of double-digit win seasons and I believe he can do that.

Any thoughts?

I'm nervous about Utah. I'm nervous every week, our running game is non-existent, and we're not closing games out strongly.

Re: USC Trojans Football

Welp, another season is upon us. Clay Helton is starting the year on the hot seat. The media has Utah picked to win the division and possibly the conference, and some people are speculating we could start the season 0-6. I expect us to beat Fresno at home and BYU on the road, but they're popular upset picks.

I think we'll go 8-4 or 9-3. We have the talent to run the table, as always, but we've got a new system, an ongoing quarterback competition, a rebuilt secondary, and a difficult schedule.

Fight On!

I don’t think we will ever see a USC team start 0-6. I’m really curious to see how JT Daniels does as a sophomore in this new offensive scheme.

I'm here. Class of '13. Slovis looked like the real deal last night. Might save that bum Heltons job ala Darnold.

Re: USC Trojans Football

Slovis looked great, bolstered by the fact that the Trojans have 3 WR's who will play on Sundays, that are all large catch radius targets and good YAC guys.

Last nights win I think is deceiving as Stanford is no where near as good as their pre-season ranking would indicate.

The new offense helps with the Trojans biggest weakness, offensive line depth. So that's a positive.

All of that said, USC is real young on the back end of the defense, lacks depth in the front 7 and is playing a freshman QB. If they get 7 wins this year, I will consider it a miracle.

Young OG looked real good last night. Hopefully we have 1 CB spot locked down. ITS is still very raw, would have liked to see more Steele over Johnson but he did hold his own.
