Conference Championship Week

The season always comes to an end way too fast. Enjoy Friday-Saturday night boys. It's the last time that we will have all day college football for a couple of weeks. This is also the last time that we see conference championship week with P5 conferences as we know them.

Fireworks start on Friday at 8pm ET with Oregon and Washington (7pm with Liberty & New Mexico if you're a degenerate).

Lots of exciting scenarios to play out with CFP implications.
Georgia, Michigan and Washington are all in if they win. I have to imagine that FSU is also in if they are in.

Things get pretty wild if any of those teams lose though. There is a very real chance that we don't see a SEC team in the CFP.

My guess is that Oregon gets its revenge, Texas rolls, Michigan takes care of business against Iowa, Lousiville knocks out FSU, and Georgia once again falls to Alabama.

Alabama has only been an underdog 3 times since 2009. Georgia was the other team on the coin in all 3 instances, but Georgia has only won 1 of those. I see that trend continuing given UGA's chronic issues against the run, especially running QBs, all year being a particularly unfavorable matchup against Milroe.

And then Team Chaos takes over as the committee tries to fill 2 spots among 3 conference champions with 1 loss.

Re: Conference Championship Week

I put this in last week's thread, but I think it's pretty simple this week.

SEC champ is in - I just don't see a one-loss SEC champion Alabama being left out.
Pac 12 champ is in - the committee already loves Oregon.
Michigan is in unless Iowa suddenly learns offense and pulls off a miracle.

That leaves one spot. Hard to see an undefeated FSU being left out, so I think it's in with a win. An FSU loss opens the door for Texas. FSU and Texas both faltering opens the door for Georgia to get in with a loss to Alabama; or for Ohio State if Georgia wins the SEC.

If you have Directv, check your viewing plans as Tegna (owner of stations in a bunch of markets) wants a ton more money so there is a contract dispute now.

Re: Conference Championship Week

Just saw on Twitter that Oregon-Washington is only the 5th Top-5 matchup in Pac-12 history.

And there's only 2 that weren't USC vs UCLA.

2023- #5 Oregon vs #3 Washington
2013- #3 Oregon vs #5 Stanford
1976- #3 USC vs #2 UCLA
1967- #4 USC vs #1 UCLA
1952- #4 USC vs #3 UCLA

Re: Conference Championship Week

FSU may be down to its third-string QB. Rodemaker is a game-time decision. Sounds like he’s essentially in concussion protocol after that hit he took against Florida.
