USC would be given it this year. SMU's death penalty will prevent that though.

"SMU taught the committee that the death penalty is too much like the nuclear bomb. It's like what happened after we dropped the atom bomb in WWII The results were so catastrophic that now we'll do anything to avoid dropping another one." - John V. Lombardi

*Ahem* It's pronounced "Wal-Mark".

...If after Butch, Miami had hired a competent coach with a clue instead of the two a** balls since then?

This is huge. I can see SMU as being the do-no wrong media darling of ESPN.

Which, in turn, helps in recruiting, and we all that all starts and ends in Texas.

SMU wasn't a powerhouse.

SMU is second only in historical overrating to Navy. The two seasons prior to the death penalty, SMU was 6-5 and 6-5.

Their only consistent success was in the early 80s, but it's quite apparent why that was now.

Honestly Eric Dickerson probably would have made ANY team in America a top program. People forget how amazing of a talent he was.....

What if Jimmy Johnson never went to the NFL?

Hmm. That's one I hadn't even considered, but imo it's not at all far-fetched.

Timing really is everything, ain't it?
