The story with Willie Lyles "recruiting service" that Oregon paid $25,000 for has been flying a bit under the radar, but I expect it to start picking up some steam with the records released Monday to a couple of newspapers in Oregon.

Also, the Eugene Register Guard reports that there were nearly 400 text messages exchanged between Lyles and Oregon coaches (mostly Chip Kelly) over a four-month period in 2008.

Kelly traded 12 texts with Lyles on the two days before Jan. 17, 2008, when UO received a verbal commitment from LaMichael James, who has described Lyles as an advisor.

You do realize that the stuff that was released yesterday is all the same stuff that the NCAA already got back when this whole thing started back in like March? Since they haven't released any type of sanctions after doing a 3-month inquiry so far, I doubt anything is imminent. If people really want to get excited about $25K Oregon paid a recruiting service, go look up how much schools like Oklahoma (over $200K) and Alabama (over $80K) paid; those make Oregon's payments look like peanuts.

You do realize that the stuff that was released yesterday is all the same stuff that the NCAA already got back when this whole thing started back in like March? Since they haven't released any type of sanctions after doing a 3-month inquiry so far, I doubt anything is imminent. And the thing is, they're allowed to do this. This isn't illegal in terms of the NCAA rules. There was only one thing that the NCAA didn't like about it but I can't remember what it was. I think it was the way Lyles got his information or something.

I think the biggest thing we will see come out of this whole pay for services thing is a change in rules. NCAA will change their rules regarding paying for scouting services before they put sanctions on Oregon's program.

If Oregon did anything wrong, it probably wouldn't be subject to any new rules the NCAA puts into place since the NCAA tends not to punish teams for past actions prior to new, stringent rules. The NCAA will judge them by the rules already on the book and there is really no set punishment for violations, so Oregon could end up with very minor sanctions even if they are found in violation of them.

does this mean Chipster is a liar??? If his statements to the media are the same he made to the NCAA in that he doesn't know Will Lyles....then he'll probably see the same fate as Jim Tressel.

Interesting. Looks like he spent this past week in Miami according to his twitter account. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Florida, however, since they've had the most success the past decade.
