2011 College Football Awards

Surprised there isn't a thread for this.

Head Coach of the Year- Les Miles (LSU)
Assistant of the Year- John Chavis (LSU)
Rimington Award- David Molk (Michigan)
Bednarik Award- Tyrann Mathieu (LSU)
Doak Walker Award- Trent Richardson (Alabama)
Fred Biletnikoff Award- Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State)
Lou Groza Award- Randy Bullock (Texas A&M)
Ray Guy Award- Ryan Allen (Louisiana Tech)
Outland Trophy- Barrett Jones (Alabama)
Jim Thorpe Award- Morris Claiborne (LSU)
Mackey Award- Dwayne Allen (Clemson)
Davey O'Brien Award- Robert Griffin III (Baylor)
Disney Spirit Award- Carson Tinker (Alabama)
Maxwell Award- Andrew Luck (Stanford)

Interesting notes:
Honey Badger becomes 2nd consecutive LSU player to win Bednarik (PP7)
Richardson becomes first Bama back to receive Walker (thought Ingram did)
Blackmon becomes second player ever to win consecutive Biletnikoffs (Crabtree)

If it wasn't for the Michigan player, the South would've reigned supreme!

Re: 2011 College Football Awards

I think it is a joke that Miles and Chavis won the HC/Assistant of the Year.

Not that I don't think they are great coaches, because they are and I am obviously biased but how do Hoke and Mattison not win those awards?

Won 10 games in his first season with basically the same squad that RR could not do anything with with be average. The RR/Robinson defense last year averaged about 33 points against while the Hoke/Mattison defense only gave up 17.2 per game with basically the same exact squad.

And LSU just reloads with much better talent than Michigan has right now on the defensive side of the ball.

But that is my homer opinion. But Congrats to all the award winners and glad to see Molk get an award.

Re: 2011 College Football Awards

I don't have a problem with Chavis.

I would have given the HCOTY to Snyder though. Nobody expected that team to even sniff 10 wins this year. Michigan at least got some votes by the AP in the preseason so people thought they would be pretty decent. Yes they over performed their predictions, but I think KSU did more-so.

Re: 2011 College Football Awards

Well LSU is the only undefeated team. Snyder and Hoke both won their respective conference's Coach of the Year awards. I'm fine with the choice. Now before you start in with the whole homer thing, I think the coach of the last undefeated team should win the National Head Coach of the Year award, regardless of school. Hell if somehow Akron went undefeated this year, give it to their HC.

Re: 2011 College Football Awards

I think Assistant coach of the year should have gone to Greg Mattison. Guy took an outright terrible unit, one of the worst in the county, and turned them into one of the better defense's in the country. Chavis just took an already loaded roster and did what was expected. Just about anybody would've looked good as LSU's DC this year with the kind of talent they have.
