The upgrade is complete, but you've probably noticed the forums are only showing posts up to about April 8. Posts made after that are still in the process of being moved over, and that should take another week or two. Feel free to start a new thread.
The site might feel a little slow while work continues. Engineers are staying on it through the night to get things moving faster again. Thanks for your patience.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
Has been a thing for awhile now. Sometimes they are called by different names like director of personnel or something along those lines, but it's become common for most programs to have one.

I do think NFL was done with Belichick more than he was done with the NFL. If ATL, would've offered him the job last offseason, he would've taken it. I'd imagine he wanted the same type of power structure as he had in NE and I imagine teams don't want to give him that type of power. He pretty much was the de-facto GM. A lot of his drafting over the past 8-9 years was a big reason why the Patriots are where they are now. I never seen someone as bad as drafting WRs as BB. He's done good with less. But in CFB, talent matters. With the NFL, the talent gap between teams is significantly less than it is in the CFB. You can win with fundamentals, discipline, and toughness in the NFL.
I wonder how his personality meshes with 17-22 year olds. He's a grumpy no nonsense coach. Those 17-22 year olds want to have fun and show their personality.
Bill wasn't going to get the GM power in Atlanta so from what I understand that was the dealbreaker. Nobody is exactly sure who is calling the shoots in atlanta, but it wasn't going to be just Bill with 3 people in the mix already.
I've been coming around on this, college football is becoming more and more pro football, we even have chatter about billionaires buying college teams
recruiting doesn't even matter anymore, you let everyone else recruit and then steal the best players in the portal, this could work
Yeah, just like you can be a middle of the pack team like TT or Mizz and land a 5 star and the very next offseason, that 5 star will enter the portal. Just like, G5 team is more likely to lose it's best players. NIL/Transfer Portal has evened the playing field, but at the same time, it's still the Have and Have nots. When a recruit/transfer lands at a certain school, fair or not, the perception will be that the school offered a bag. For example, Texas A&M has that perception
For UNC, the ACC isn't a Juggernaut. Beside Clemson and SMU(maybe), ACC is winnable or at least can compete in. Not sure how much of an impact a team can make on the 2ne signing day nowadays. So, it depends on what they can do in the transfer portal.

Yeah, definitely more akin to pro sports now than amateur hour. It's just a matter of time before they remove the four year eligibility thing. In thirty years college football will be dominated by 28 year old athletes instead of 21 year olds.

I get medical hardships, covid years, old transfer rules, etc. But something has to give with these 6-8 year college athletes. Cam Rising is getting another year of eligibility next year. I think I saw something where he was in the same class as Trevor Lawrence or someone who already has 4 years in league.

It has become semipro football with hardly any restrictions of any kind on players. The athletes are running the entire system, whether we will admit it or not.

Someone will eventually have to break the hard news to the players that their actions [fueled by greed, no doubt] across the sport are severely damaging the game for future generations of athletes.
What’s the difference between an AD and a GM as far as the day to day operation goes?
AD oversees the entire athletic department. Is responsible for booster relations and fundraising.
GM and equivalent roles in CFB are doing roster management. They are analyzing the roster, mapping out development plans for players, leading the recruiting board setup to prioritize what they see as the biggest needs, etc.
Unless UNC is doing it different than anyone else, the GM of the program is there to help with getting the roster in the bests position possible and doesn't really do any of the political stuff like managing the boosters. He will lead scouting meetings, make the final call on who does and doesn't get offers, say who the priority targets are, etc. The AD should be doing nothing of that sorts in a typical setting.
