Who's going to wear #18 for LSU?

I just got finished looking at the Official 2013 Roster and I've seen that no one has been chosen to wear #18 for LSU. I've heard all kinds of urban legends about how the player is chosen to wear it. I really think Lamin Barrow, Anthony Johnson, and Odell Beckham Jr. have all earned the right to wear this honored number.

(I'm primarily a UK fan, but I really like the way the Mad Hatter does things down on the Bayou so I've accepted them as my #2 SEC school)

I wouldn't mind seeing Anthony Johnson get it, but since a DT had it last year, I want it somewhere else. So I vote Craig Loston.

I've forgotten all about Craig. I'd personally vote for Lamin Barrow because that dude is a badass LB, but Loston is a badass DB and Johnson is an amazing DT. When do you think we will find out who gets it?

I honestly have no idea. I couldn't find a date, but it's passed down during the offseason. And whoever receives it is up to the player who wore it before. Matt Mauck gave it to Jacob Hester, who gave it to Richard Dickson, who gave it to Richard Murphy, who gave it to Brandon Taylor, who gave it to Bennie Logan.

So whoever Bennie Logan sees fit, that's who gets the honor.

It's just a tradition that started in 2004. No special meaning behind the number, other than who's expected to be a leader.

#18 is usually handed out later this month. If i was a gambling man I'd bet JC Copeland or Lamin Barrow will get it

Out of curiosity, would you give #7 to anyone? When last season ended, I figured Simon would be a lock, but he left early.

I'm kind of the opposite. I'd like to see the (recent) trend of 7 sticking with a DB or WR and giving 18 to a bigger player (FB, lineman or TE.) I'd like to see Loston in 7 and Freak or Copeland in 18.

You make a great point. I think Craig deserves 7 and JC, Barrow, A. Johnson all have earned the right to wear 18. I'm interested to see to see who gets chosen for these honored numbers.

Not exactly related, but apparently Odessa Permian gives star quarterbacks the number 20. I know Mike Winchell wore it in the 80s, and their QB now wears it.

It might not even be a tradition, but it's odd that two quarterbacks at the same school would wear a non-QB number.
