From what I'm hearing this is not a done deal. Imo this leak is an attempt by Herman's agent to get UT to up the ante.

Yeah, why exactly would Herman be in a rush to accept anything right now? Makes zero sense.

Re: 2016-17 Coaching Carousel - The Tom Herman Sweeptstakes

Ok guys, here is the skinny. Trust me or not, I don't care but I got this from a very well-connected source.

The Herman Situation:

LSU cannot outbid Texas. Texas is one of the few schools that LSU cannot beat in a bidding war and the boosters/athletic department realizes that. However, LSU has leverage. Texas has to not only fire Charlie but back up the Brinks truck to get Herman because Herman's Texas price is much higher than his LSU price. That's because Herman really wants to bring Applewhite with him and Applewhite can't/won't go back to Texas for reasons I won't disclose while Applewhite is from BR and knows the area like the back of his hand. So basically this is an issue of how much he values his OC, if Texas fires Charlie.

The Orgeron Situation:

O obviously has the inside track because he is already in the program and has the vote of the players/administration. But the new Ed Orgeron is very dependent upon position coaches, and needs to have a strong OC hire all but locked up before he even gets the job. Steve Ensminger has done alright, but the general consensus is that LSU can do much better and rumour has it that this season has been plent of OC experience for Ensminger's liking.

Orgeron and Kiffin have been together before and the writing on the wall is that thanks to the "Saban's Special Children" moniker Kiffin wants to be successful elsewhere outside of Alabama because guys like Smart, Muschamp, and McElwain have made ADs cautious of the "he was an assistant under Saban!" selling point. Kiffin wants to come to Baton Rouge, fix LSU's offense, and use that to get a Power Five job. Thing is, Alabama is the other one of the three schools that can outbid LSU. Just like Herman, how much does Nick Saban value his OC?

The Fisher Situation:

Is technically still in play, but at this point it's a two horse race.

Things are moving quickly and this can be wildly outdated by the time I get out of my movie tonight. We could have a new head coach as soon as Sunday, but I doubt that.

It'll be interesting to see Charlie Strong show up to coach Longhorn spring practice next year only to find out that an entire new coaching staff has been installed without him knowing.

Per Texas's 247 site, Strong will be fired (or he'll resign) tomorrow.

Texas hopes to interview Herman tomorrow as well.
