Don't forget LSU barely scraped by Bama and Texas. Ohio St has blasted just about every opponent they've played from my recollection.

Your recollection needs some work.

LSU dominated for most of those games until they stepped off the gas late in the game. The Alabama game was 33-13 at halftime.

The committee got it right, in terms of most deserving, but this season has proved just how ridiculous this process is, and why there should be some guidelines implemented.

OSU was #1 on November 9th after destroying Maryland. To that point, Wisconsin was their only ranked win (not counting MSU who was #25 at the time of playing). That same week LSU beat then #3 Alabama in a close one, the week before they had beaten top 10 Auburn, and 3 weeks prior they had beaten top 10 Florida (not including their win earlier in the season against then top 10 Texas since they fell out).

If OSU's dominance to that point in the season overcame their relatively weak schedule compared to LSU's numerous quality wins, then OSU never should have lost #1 this season. Sure, LSU dominating #4 is more impressive than OSU's 13 point win over #8, but the committee showed us a month ago that it shouldn't have mattered.
