XBOX 360.......SORT OF NOISY?

Just purchased a 360 Core System and noticed that it makes quite a bit of noise when turned on. Is it normal for it to make a high pitched whistling noise while the system is running? I have a PS3 and it's much quieter it seems. The 360 plays plays ok, it just seems really loud when it's running. Thanks.

360 definitely makes more noise than the PS3

I got a PS3 with Madden and NBA 2K7 for Christmas. I used some gift cards and traded in my regular Xbox with some old games and got the 360 Core System and College Hoops. I love college basketball, but I have to say that I'm enjoying the PS3 NBA 2K7 much more. So does the 360 always make that low whistling sound that sometimes sounds like crickets chirping? I'm not used to that. The PS3 is really quiet compared to that.

Yeah. X360 makes noise for sure. It's annoying, but you'll get used to it.

The only time I really notice it is when the volume is real low.

Seriously? That's something I noticed as soon as I started the game up. It literally sounds like a low constant whistle with a cricket chirp thrown in there occasionally. Sounds weird. Do you have the cooler for your system? I've heard that cuts down on the noise.

x360 makes lots of noise but you never notice it whn your actually playing the game, or doing stuff in your legacy mode and whatnot....only if the volume is low is when you notice it.

that could be it. i usally set in the floor right in front of my system when i'm playing and i don't keep the tv volume up really loud usually. maybe if i was a little further away, it wouldn't be as noticeable.

Like in another zip code.....the thing's noisy as heck. I catch myself taking second glances at the thing expecting the cd tray to fly open and hurle the disk accross the room...that's what it sounds like it's gonna do anyway. At first, after reading the material that came with the xbox, I thought about buying the 2 year extended warrenty cause the thing sounds like it's goiong to fall apart when you turn it on. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if the DVD burns out...or breaks one day.

well at least i know it's not just me then. i just tried playing again and turned the tv up louder. that whistling noise is loud. oh well, as long as it plays i guess everything's ok.

Haha, did you expect it to sound like a lawnmower? My system is loud as hell. System makes twice as much noise as my computer, and I wouldn't say I have the most quiet pc out there.
