ABL..Using It?
Basically what I have been doing is going through the games and picking a handful..like a half dozen or so games to play based on how many 3 start players are on the roster that have a decent interest meter and then play those games using 2 minute halves.

I still did not mess with the ABL games, but do the recurit pts go by how many min halves you got or just win/lose? -

Re: ABL..Using It?
I did the same thing but what difference have u seen? I only got 20 more recruiting points a week and I was able to unlock the attributes. I would rather have saved my time and just scouted these kids games once the season starts. Am I missing something?Basically what I have been doing is going through the games and picking a handful..like a half dozen or so games to play based on how many 3 start players are on the roster that have a decent interest meter and then play those games using 2 minute halves.

Re: ABL..Using It?
Are you sure you only got 20 points? For my legacy I didn't play any of the games because, as Michigan State, I have plenty of recruiting points and I don't need the bonus points. Before I started my legacy I toyed around for a while and I tried playing the games with 1 minute halves (you said you used 2 minute halves) and I got 40 bonus recruiting points for every game I played, win or lose, even with only 1 minute halves. I do find the games very helpful for scouting though. I definitely think it's worth picking recruits you want to see and then scheduling at least 2 of their games to watch
Is it different for open/closed legacies?
Is it a percentage of your total recruiting points? IE. MSU has more total points than your small school so they get more points per game (but the same percentage as your small school)?Last edited by jello1717; 11-30-2007, 11:53 AM.Favorite Teams:

oh man! please dont take this feature out 2k!
how is it useless? just sim it if you dont like it
I see a pattern here...the people who dont like it is using it for the wrong thing....recruiting points!!! thats just the bonus of playing out the game...the whole purpose of this feature is to find those diamiond in the rough playyers..you guys prolly the ones who just go for the HS AA...SMH....no offense to u tho!Last edited by Jukeman; 11-30-2007, 12:26 PM.Comment

I agree 100%. The ABL games are awesome for scouting people. You can find a lot of information about your targets by just "watching" 2 of their games. You don't have to actually watch the game. You just select that game to "watch" and then sim it. You still get all of the information other than how they move on the court. It's also great to check the leaderboards after a while and look for other recruits that you didn't target, but that are doing well. You can find some good diamonds in the rough like this.oh man! please dont take this feature out 2k!

Here's one thing I don't understand, though. It seems like everyone is talking about the ABL is some huge breakthrough for 2k8. The fact of the matter is, however, that they had the same exact thing in 2k7! It wasn't called ABL and I don't think they had the mini tournament at the end, but it served the same exact function. As far as I can tell, here's the only differnces between 2k8's ABL and the same thing they had in 2k7:
ABL: more teams and more games for you to watch.
ABL: you can get bonus recruiting points for playing the games instead of only simming them (but you could play the games last year too).
ABL: has more stats for you to check out
In 2k7, you could still target people, sort the various teams to find your targets, scout those games and get info on them, play the games if you wanted to see how they move.

I hope they don't, but they might take it out if they get enough whining from people who say they don't have the time. They created a Legacy mode that is designed to last an entire year until the next version of CHOOPS comes out.
If you get bored with the game, or want to play other games as well as, or instead of this game then so be it, but don't act like this doesn't add tremendous value to this product.
I'm playing the whole ABL season, at 16 minute halves, and am loving every minute of it. The recruiting point are a nice little bonus, but I would do it even without the extra points. I'm finding it just as interesting as the regular season, I'm really enjoying playing all these games with and against all the players on my target list, as well as using and seeing lots of other players that I probably would never have ever seen otherwise.
Its a great feature, and I hope it stays.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

You can watch and it still counts? Nice! I'll have to double check that.I agree 100%. The ABL games are awesome for scouting people. 2K7 had the summer camps. They are similar but I still haven't decided if the ABL is better yet. ABL is more regional but its not as organized. 2K7 sorted their camps by stars and you had to make a choice on which camp to attend.
In 2K8 you play with a mixture of 2 stars and 5 stars on the same team. Its realistic, but harder to figure out since we only have about 20 games to play.Comment

Re: ABL..Using It?
Re: ABL..Using It?
I think the ABL is infinitely better than the summer camps. I've started to understand the strategy behind it. I usually use 4 min halves to get a feel for certain players attributes (although 2 or 3 minutes could work as well.) What's important is to look at your recruiting board first before you do any ABL games. Identify the top 4 or 5 recruits interested in your program. When you're ready, go to the schedule that shows all the games (16) for this period.
You get more bang for your buck if you can play games that have multiple recruits on both sides. You can get all the info you want on a prospective recruit by playing 2 games. You can find the player's "potential" by playing a third game. This not only gets you extra recruiting points (40 per game), but for a small program you need to effectivley target to grow.
Once I'm done I usually have a pool of 12 senior recruits with a couple of juniors and sophmores to fill out the roster. Next I use some paper to rank them by position which often differs from the computers ranking (it really is important to get a "feel" for these guys.) Ultimately I come out with a top five to concentrate on and away I go!!!!!
Please 2k, keep the ABL. It's AWESOME!Comment

I'm definitely liking the ABL. I was actually scouting a PF and while I was there I noticed a nice PG. He had me listed as his number 2 school. I didn't end up signing the PF, but did sign the PG who I wasn't even originally recruiting!

Great post Jello .. this an excellent feature that adds a LOT. Not only can you find diamonds but you can toss back what you thought were diamonds. I had a 5 star who was interested but when I played with him he didn't fit my style at all so I went with a 3 star kid who was lighting the gym up...Catch me on that #SimNation #SimHangOut Friday's @ 10:00 pm est https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...N7yxMiElOpMl_BComment
