Legacy Mode Guide? Help with recuiting?

Is there a legacy mode guide? I really need help with recruiting, how many points I should use a week, how many juniors and youngers I should put on my target list, if any, what I should do when targeting players (call them, visit them, etc.)

Is there a guide out there somewhere?

if not, if anyone could answer/give tips on the above subject, that would be great!

Re: Legacy Mode Guide? Help with recuiting?

I'm sure you'll find tons of good information if you use the search function on these forums.

I haven't mastered the recruiting process yet and I also have the advantage of playing with Duke, but this is what I've found success with so far:

The majority of the top dogs are signed in the early signing period, so you need to recruit hard, heavy and efficiently in the first month of the season if you want to land the top players.

The in-game tips/help page on the recruiting page is helpful in telling you what each action does specifically. E-mails = Prospect's interest won't decrease. Phone call = Interest goes up a tiny amount. Home Visit = Large increase in interest, small increase in information. Scout Game = Large increase in information, small increase in interest. Campus Visit = Huge increase in interest. Offer scholarship = Moderate increase in interest.

You can only to home visits/scout games a total of 5 times combined, and you can only have 3 home visits. So the ideal breakdown should be 3 home visits and 2 scouting games for the maximum increase in interest, as well as a campus visit and scholarship offer. I've read some people saying that it's best to wait until later to offer the scholarship and the give the campus tour, like the week before the early signing period. I'm not sure if that's more effective or not though, but I still do it.

You're not going to have enough points to visit, scout, and give tours to all your targets, and if you try to do that you're just spreading yourself too thin and won't get anybody. Find two or three players that you want and think you have a good shot at, and focus exclusively on these for the big recruiting tasks in the first month of the season.

Telling which players you have a good chance of getting is kind of difficult, you have to look their priorities. After talking to them a few times, you should be able to see what their top 3 priorities are and one thing that they don't care about. From what I can remember, there are:

    Playing close to home.
    Playing at a big program.
    Getting good coaching.
    Getting playing time.

The first three are self-explanatory, it means they'll be more interested if your school is local, big and if you have a good coach rating, all relative to the other schools trying to recruit him. The last one is trickier, it takes into account both the number of non-seniors you have at their position and how many total players are on your team. They'll assume that whoever is at their position on your team will stay until they graduate, which is kind of annoying when you have a star player who's clearly going to leave after their sophomore year. Also, they take into account how many total players there are on your team, so if you cut all your walk-ons their interest will actually go up if getting playing time is a priority.

So to tell if you have a good chance at getting a guy, you should first look at how high their initial interest in you is relative to the other schools after like one phone call. If you're equal or higher than the other schools you're in good position. Sometimes you'll be like 3rd on their list but like 40% behind the top two schools, that's a lost cause. So after you weed out all the players where you're already way behind, you have to look at if their priorities match up well with your program relative to the competition. If you're neck-and-neck with another program chasing after the same prospect, but that prospect has "playing close to home" as their top priority and the program you're competing with is in his home state, you're going to lose that battle 9 times out of 10.

So after looking at all that, you should be able to prioritize two or three players. Call them every week, visit them at home 3 times, scout their games 2 times, invite them for a campus tour, offer them a scholarship. Hopefully when that early signing period arrives, you'll have three commitments.

Also, remember they have to be at 100% interest to sign. And just getting to 100% doesn't guarantee he'll sign with you, sometimes there will be other competing schools also at 100% and they'll get him because the targets priorities align better with that school.

As for juniors, there's not much to do with them. After getting their game tape, all you can do is call them every week. I usually don't mess around with any of that until after the early signing period, and after I've filled all my scholarships. I also turn assisted recruiting off during the early signing period because efficiency is the name of the game, but I'll turn it on after that because they'll go out and talk to people on their own that fit your designated recruiting priorities.

Wow that ended up being a lot longer than I thought, haha... well good luck recruiting!

I'm in my fifth season at Duke, and have pulled some good recruiting classes each year. First year I got two 5-stars and one 4-star, second year I had one 5-star and one 4-star (#1 C), third year I had an epic four 5-stars (#1 and #2 PG, #1 SG, #1 C) and one 4-star, fourth year I had two 5-stars (#2 SG). I'm 25 games into this current season and signed four 5-stars in early signing period, still have on scholarship to offer, hopefully going to be a 4-star.

Re: Legacy Mode Guide? Help with recuiting?

Re: Legacy Mode Guide? Help with recuiting?

here is pretty much what I do and I have had success at small schools. Never tried and big schools but in my current legacy I might. I am not playing with one of the ones you can choose in career but I signed 2 4stars and a 2 star who was a straight steal and every bit as good as the 4 stars plus 7 feet tall in my first year as montana state.

International players are the easiest way to find quick talent but the probelm with them is you really dont know for sure what you are getting until you get it. you can only see one or two areas unlocked with game tape. I have seen 4 stars as low as 65 overall come from there or 3 stars who were 75 overall to start. It is kinda luck of the draw but I have been able to find players worth using and there isnt much competition plus with only being able to call, email and view game tape there isnt much advantage in recruiting ability for the bigger schools so as a small school I usually take a shot with one 3 or 4 star. 5 stars will generally draw a lot of competition but 3s and 4s wont.

Also while I am a smaller school with weaker talent and no fear of players leaving early I try to spread it out to 3 or 4 scholarships per year so I am never depending on my recruiting class too much until after I have them. I try to maintain this somewhat when I start losing players early to the NBA but that will be somewhat covered later in this guide.

I dont play much in ABL the first year but after that when I have gotten to peak through the upcoming seniors a little and find out about them I play a little of it. I look at players who I targeted before they were seniors and try to play with some of them and also with anyone I can find who is local or even interested regional prospects.

After the ABL I go through and pick out usually my top 3 choices for my 2 most important scholarship positions, maybe 2 or 3 for my third, and 2 or 3 world prospects probably one in for each scholarship as backups. I agree with the previos post on wanting the 3 to 2 visit to games scouted ratio and also on waiting to offer scholarships and campus visits until the end. Important to remember you need weeks with one game or less to have a campus visit so try to schedule one of those right before the recruit signing period. The only time I see a real benifit to waiting toward the end is if their are going to be a couple teams at 100% and offering scholarships which will only be with top players but it doenst ever really hurt to do it. The only time I stray from it is like if another small school is right behind me for a guy offering some competition I will offer a scholarship and sometimes they then leave him alone and then I can just call him and get his interest up little by little and coast to success without wasting as many points.

My first choice for my top 3 is always municipal guys followed by local etc. As montana state this isnt always possible though and regional is pretty iffy as well. I usually have to go for most of mine nationally which I dont really like to do but so is the case when dealing with small schools in small states. When going outside my state I first look to other states without tough schools. The dakotas, wyoming, idaho, alaska, and hawaii are all easier than going to like california or washington for example and ussually you can find one or two real steals in these areas. Other good states might be maine, new hampshire, vermont, any state without a program way better than the one you are using. This doesnt mean you cant go in to the big states but I look small first due to that leveling at least the location playing field. If you can also even the playing time playing field then you are well on your way to being able to get a couple decent recruits.

Next, out of the recruits I have chosen for each scholarship I have to fill I choose my to 2 prospects that I would like to sign to fill those scholarships. if I dont know everything I need to about them I scout their games right off the bat and determine which of the 2 I want. If I know which of the 2 I want I go straight to recruiting. I go after them with everything I have. I never leave any points unused here because by the end of the year I am always just calling guys who I will probably get and taking chances visiting guys who are out of my league in hopes of getting lucky which does sometimes happen. Look at guys like beasly, mayo, and durrant going away from the normal powerhouses. It happens but not too much in this game.

Also during this time I go ahead and call and email those who werent my chosen ones every weak. They are my backups. Same goes for the foriegners. If any of my backups gets an offer from someone else I replace them with someone who has not. I continue this until the signing period. This is when you get your first indication of how the class will go. Hopefully I sign at least one here and possibly 2. After this I will assess where I am with each of my 3 main targets. If I signed them, those slots on my list will go to juniors. If I lost them or feel I will lose them they get replaced. If I feel I will get them they retain their spot, the foriegner or one other backup I fell safe about my ability to get will stay on and the rest will be removed.

Here I fill my board with juniors. I generally look pretty optimistically here going after guys one level above what I went after in the current year. Their star ratings will change so by doing this I know I will at least end up scouting guys who are probably at the level I am currently looking at and who knows, one could end up building interest in you and then getting even better and still sticking with you.

Also, another important thing to look at here is 4 and 5 star players who havent gotten any offers yet and players to replace any who might leave early. Most teams have made their initial offers and will have made any offers to replace those within the first couple weeks after the signing period so go through after that, sort by number of stars and start at the top and work down. pick 2 or 3 who you might want either to replace one guy you might offer otherwise or to replace someone who might go pro. visit them, scout them, call them, use points. After this recruiting period your points reset so you might as well use them up.

The last week of recruiting. Here you have to decide wether to stick with the scholarship offer you feel safe about, swich it to that foriegner, or switch it to that lower level 5 star or upper level 4 who hasnt gotten an offer yet because all the big school are after the all americans and he got overlooked. If you think you can get the better player then that is always the right choice. If you are unsure then look at how important that player will be to your success next year or the following year. If you need a starter with this one because either all your players in that position suck or maybe you have a good senior with noone else then go with the safe guy. Otherwise, if you have depth, take a chance. Remember you also have that foriegner for backup and even if another team might show interest, dont worry unless they offer. He is probably just their backup or filling out their board.
