I was wondering if redshirting a SO or a JR really would help boost their attributes much or is redshirting only effective if you use it on freshman? Thoughts? You don't see SO's or JR's in real life get redshirted..

I redshirt freshman or if I have a lot of schollys in a season I'll redshirt a senior that either
1) Has talent to start but is stuck behind another senior
2) Completely irrelevant but has a scholly
Just to mix up the distribution of scholarships as best as I can, I don't like the idea of losing out on role players but for example if I have a 80 SR SG and a 79 SR SG, I'll redshirt the 79 and take those risks because it allows me a competent starter and better spread of schloarships.
The later is only to spread out scholarships I don't expect those players to develop into anything more than warming the bench.Bulls|Bears|Cubs| Blackhawks|Huskies|Horned Frogs|

You do at times. If a guy comes in as a stopgap then a school signs a program changer at his position, they may redshirt the player to allow him an extra year with the chance at starting after a player leaves early. Or if a guy is a Soph, a junior transfers to you. The soph plays a year, while the junior gets a redshirt in his transfer year. The junior starts, and the true junior (soph) redshirts.
But I've done it a few times. Say I sign 3 guys at the same position. 1 is ahead of the others, while the other two are similar. I redshirt one the first year, the other the second year.North Carolina Tar Heels

One time I redshirted a soph (SF) due to signing another player at his position. I then had 3 SF when I only needed 2 and one of them was a senior so I redshirted the worst of the 3 (the sophmore) so I wouldn't waste a year of eligibility with him when he could still play.
And in real life a senior for Vanderbilt (Darshawn McClellan) redshirted this season so it does happen but not often.“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

When i started my Charleston legacy I redshirted the best player, who was a senior, because I knew I was gonna sim most the first year and play most the 2nd. It worked out cuz I won the championship the 2nd year.
Also in my Alabama St legacy I had a ton of juniors I liked, and Chris Bosh's brother was on the team as a senior. I redshirted him so that the next year I could have like 7 key seniors on my team, and i had a variety of starting lineups until I found one I liked the best. I dont remember how well that year went, but its the only other situation I remember redshirting a senior.
Ive redshirted juniors and sophmores but mostly cuz I have other players at that position and instead of them riding the pine all year I sit them. When i got to San Diego St they had a great Junior PG and a great freshman PG. They also had a solid Sophmore PG. I redshirted him for that year and now in my 3rd year, the 1 PG graduated, the other is starting as a junior, and the one i reshirted is a solid backup PG as a juniorComment

I do when I bring in multiple recruits at the same position. Sometimes I'll bring in a freshman PG, for example. He'll start his first year while I bring in another, better PG. He redshirts his sophomore year while my new PG gets playing time. Then my newer PG redhirts HIS sophomore year. That way I can manage playing time for both of them without either one being unhappy.
Are medical redshirts unlimited? Can a player tear an ACL two consecutive years and receive medical redshirts for both of them?VCU Final Four 2011

I redshirt the worst players on my team, or any overstock in a position. So if the 3 worst players are all seniors, I will redshirt them.Football: Denver Broncos

Only for medicals for me unless the position is crowded and I happen to land an outstanding freshman recruit. Usually the players I recruit can still be good rotation players.Comment

I generally redshirt all freshman regardless, so I don't always have this opportunity, but on occasion, i have had a few that slipped through because of PLEs and transfers.Support Local Sports
