    Tried CH 2K8... Meh

Before you CH 2K8 faithful pelt me with verbal assault, allow me to explain...

I have been away from basketball games in general for a long time and finally decided to try out the 2K series for the first time with NBA 2K11. That game hooked me in a big way and when 2K12 dropped it was a release day purchase for me. I have been underwhelmed by 2K12 but it is still a pretty solid game.

So after getting on the 2K basketball bandwagon, I saw that mock review for CH 2K12 and did a few Google searches only to realize there hasn't been a college hoops game since 2K8. After reading several comments on here about how legendary 2K8 was I grabbed my keys and went down to the local Gamestop and found it for $11. It didn't come with a game case and the disc did not look too great, but Gamestop gaurantees functionality so I gave it a go.

So I get home, toss it in my 360 and try to install the game on the hard drive. It completes without fault so I fire it up for the first time. It alerst for a patch download of 2MB and then finally shoots to the main menu. I spent about 2 hours setting up my open legacy with Alabama and downloaded the most current rosters from the 2K Share feature. My Tide was ranked #22 and the rosters looked great. So I decided to jump in and get a game going. This is where the fun quickly went downhill for me. While I thought the graphics looked pretty dang good, the gameplay was so far behind what I was used to with 2K11/12 that it made it completely unplayable for me. I tried two games and didn't make it through the 2nd one.

To be fair, I set myself up for failure in thinking CH 2K8 was going to compare to 2K11 in any way... but that is what I was hoping for to some degree. The two games aren't even similar and here I sit disappointed thinking I was actually going to get my college basketball fix. Now, I do like the presentation show elements and the recruiting depth, but the on-court gameplay is a make or break for me... and it won't get any play time in my 360.

So! If any of you 2K8 faithful are interested in my copy of the game you are welcome to it. I just can't see taking it back to Gamestop for an $11 refund. If any of you want this disc, reply to this thread and I'll get your mailing address via email. Shoot me payment of $10 via Paypal to cover the game and shipping and I'll get it out to you Monday (28 Nov). Hopefully one of you have fun with it. Hasta!

You should give it another go with some custom sliders and playbooks... totally different ball game!

I've played CH2k8 since the first day it came out so I'm used to the game and my sliders and all that. I played a ton of NBA2k11 as well, but the transition going back to College Hoops was easy for me since I knew what I was getting into. I imagine starting with 2k11 and then playing 2k8 for the first time would be a very difficult transition.

With that said, if you are giving out your copy, I have a friend here that has been looking for a copy for a while. If you want to send it my way, I'd have no objections.

I feel what you are saying.
that happened to me when I played 2k10. the love of the game fell off. Ive been playing 2hk8 since release day. and still felt a huge drop off.
the main issue was with player movement in regrads to running plays. its minimal.
But what I did was I downloaded a new playbook set, I forget which one. and the game had movement. I purchased NCAA 10 which had alot of player movement, but every team played the same. I went back to 2k8

that was the major complaint from alot of folks with CHk8 after playing NBA2k10. someone updated the playbooks and rosters. game is lovely.

        give it a shot.

Yeah I think the problem is that you started off playing 2k11 and 2k12, that's understandable due that the gameplay is majorly outdated. It's a really great game tho, the most in-depth legacy/dynasty mode in a college game and offers pretty much anything.

IMO you should give it a little bit more time to grow on you. Trust me once you get the hang of the gameplay you'll be hooked with the game, it gets pretty addictive afterwards. I've played the newer versions of NBA 2k and I know what's it like to miss that gameplay, but I think because I've been playing 2k8 since it came out it doesn't bother me.

I'm appalled that you would think us faithful 2k8'ers would bash you. Lol We just like a game that gives the total package. The only thing that I don't like about 2k11 (haven't played 2k12 yet) is the cold qtrs where the game seems to go on auto pilot and all my passes go to the other team and zero shots fall. Choops 2k8 stays balanced and it feels like the right things happen when they're supposed to. Like others have said "this game owns my soul". Lol. I'd find some good sliders and give it another whirl if I were you.

P.S. I thought nba 2k10 with the right sliders was a great game too.

Where do I get the play books? I am very new to this game and got no manual.

I think you have to go to 2k Share.

I think it was a bad decision to go from 2k11, to 2k8, but an understandable one. I've been playing 2k8 for a while now, so after playing 2k11, I was easily able to go back to 2k8. I just want to say give it another try with some sliders. Try and let it grow on you. If you can learn to enjoy the game, it is one of the best, if not the best, sports gaming experiences. I'm not that big of a basketball fan, but 2k8 has made me a bigger one for sure and is easily one of my most favorite games of all time. I'm starting to go off topic, but if NCAA 13 was a clone of Choops 2k8, but in football form(and I mean graphics were the same quality, everything was an exact clone) it would easily be the best sports game of all time, in my opinion of course.

Just give it another try. It's a great game and I think you owe it to yourself to give it a second chance. If you do, and it grows on you, you'll love the game.

I recently stopped playing 2k11 over choops2k8. I agree it is a REALLY difficult transition and I really miss certain aspects like pass out of drive* for example and the superior dribbling control moves but it's still a really great game and I've gotten really used to it. At first I was like you and really disappointed, my advice is to give it another try

Give it another shot. I have been playing 2K8 for maybe two years. After playing 2K11 for awhile I had a major issue going back to 2K8. The graphics and game play frustrated me. Being a recruiting nut always brought me back. I now play the game for what it is. A great college hoops game that came out in 2007. Try reading through the following thread. It helped expand the fun factor for me.

Alright guys... I'll have to toss it back in the drive and give it another go. Can someone recommend some good sliders to me? My skill level on 2K11-12 is All-Star and I play with the standard sim sliders in that game. I'm a college basketball fan first so I really want to like this game. Thanks!

I did the same thing and jumped on 2k8 for the first time a few weeks back. I think it's a great game that has stood the test of time pretty well. However, more than anything it makes me wonder "what might have been"/ "what could be". Also, I'm not going to lie, it made me appreciate 2k12 that much more. I hoping a patch rectifies some of the association issues so that I can start in a few weeks.
