    Choops 2k8 on the PC

Been following this board for ages decides to sign up, GO TERPS!!

Retired console gamer going back to the good ol pc. I keep a fat ps3 in the living room with a dead blu ray drive for streaming netflix and movies from my computer. R.i.p 2k8 career mode on ps3 20 years in all games played

Somehow still needed my fix. So I looked into ps2 emulation pcsx2 being the emulator. Listed as not working, research shows no topics whatsoever on the 2k series being emulated. Tried it myself, had a copy of choops 2k8 ps2 collecting dust, made an iso, tweaked some things and BAM! choops 2k8 ps2 version running at 60 fps perfectly in 1080p.

I recommend this to any who don't have a console aka the pc guys out there who enjoy choops. My cpu specs are win7 phenom II x4 965be, 4 gigs ram, and a 4870x2. Replacing my desktop with an alienware laptop more powerful than my current desktop(should be here in 2 weeks). choops on the go I play using a logitec rumble pad, soon to be wireless once my laptop arrives.

From ps3 version the gameplay is the same, only thing is the graphics are obviously lower but with the upscale ability of the emulator its looking better than on an original ps2.

If you still play consoles no doubt play the console version. If your like me and want to play it on pc/laptop this is the shiznit.

Only cons I see are the are no updated rosters, no online, etc. The good thing though which consoles can't do is the save state feature. Ever couldn't finish a game and had to sim until the end? No more you can save at any point on the emulator and pick right back up at anytime in the game

At work typing this, if anyone is interested i'll post back with some video footage. Also will help guide anyone on how to set this up if your a pc only guy

      I don't know if it's legal...

But anyway... So, that's the PS2 version, eh? Back in the day, I could have just dreamed about games running like that.

      ZX Spectrum
      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
      GPU: Monochrome display

Yup it's legal, well in my case. I own a ps2, the game, and ripped the game myself. I get a lot of downtime at work, I knock out about 5 games a day in my legacy this game owns my soul lol just started conference play. I'll make a longer vid trying to capture an epic battle against dook or unc. Ready for next season, landed the #2 C in the nation from Frederick, MD. I need help down low can't wait. I use mkharsh's sliders with a few tweaks and play every game. Keep y'all posted.

Here's one, shows how fluid the game runs. Gameplay wise couldn't do much holding controller in one hand and phone in other lol.

Again I'm a noob when it comes to this video thing.

Re: Choops 2k8 on the PC

                        ok how exactly?

First off i'll list my cpu specs

                        core i7 2.4ghz
                        6 gigs ddr3 ram
                        nvidia gt555m 3gb
                        1600x900 res
                        windows 7

Ran fine on my phenom II x4 system at 3ghz 4 gigs ddr2 4870x2 vid card at 1080p also windows 7. If you still on vista UPGRADE.

Your results may vary. Link to the emulator http://www.emucr.com/2012/02/pcsx2-svn-r5099.html

Link to a detailed guide that explains the plugin's to the emulator.
                        http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Offic...n-guide-v0-9-8

This file contains all you need except for two components, the game, and the ps2 bios file from the ps2 hardware. Now someone mentioned the legality, obviously downloading the game is illegal and so is the bios file depending how you look at it. IF you own the ps2 hardware, or have at some point in time(which is about 98% of gamers lol) you can sleep easy knowing you didn't rip off sony. You need the US version of the file that can be found at numerous places that I cannot list here( *hint* torrents *hint*). Pm me if you need some direction on that.

The game can be found online or your local gamestop if they have it from 2-5$. The emulator includes a plugin that can run the game directly from your dvd drive, research shows its always best to rip it into an iso file. A quick google search will show you how, numerous programs can be used, nero, magic iso etc. Also included within the emulator is a plugin that will make a compressed iso file for the guys who like to save hard drive space.

OK so you got the emulator, bios, college hoops 2k8 iso that you made. Now its time to set it up. Right click the pcsx2 exe, click the compatibility tab and choose windows xp(service pack 3). Also check off run as administrator. Apply and thats done. Open up emulator and it will run you thru a setup to slect the plugins. This can be changed later. You will only select the GS plugin(video, depends on your hardware refer to pcsx guide link), Pad( i use LilyPad), and CDVD(i use Linuz Iso CDVD). Everything else can stay at default.

I use a logitec gamepad that is damn near identical to a ps2/ps3 controller. Use your game pad of choice, A wired 360 controller works as well. If you have wireless you will need a module to run it on the pc. I use the lilypad plugin within the emulator. This is pretty self explanatory.

The graphics plugin you will use depends on your cpu. I use the gsdx sse4.1 directx 11 version from the plugin selector. The link to the guide I posted will give you the run down on which plugin to select depending on your hardware. I had to use gsdx sse2 on my old setup for example.

The video plugin is where you will do the most tweaking. I recommend starting at the native ps2 resolution and work from there. If you can't get it running 60 fps at the native resolution then how are you going run it at higher resolutions? Get me? My settings are gsdx sse4.1>renderer direct3d11(hardware)>interlacing none>resolution custom 1600x900>texture filtering checked>Logarithmic Z checked>alpha correction checked>software mode settings, extra rendering threads set at 4(quad core cpu)> edge AA unchecked. Again depends on your hardware, you may need to run directx10 mode, directx 9 mode, or even software mode. If your setup supports a higher sse use it, if you can run directx 11 use it etc. Always use the highest that your system can support as it will run faster and smoother.

This is where it can get tricky. Theres another setting that runs in conjunction with your video settings. Pcx2 menu>config>video>core GS settings. I keep everything at default and set slow motion adjust at 50%. At the bottom you have a preset button that lets you select 1, 2,3 etc. It will tell what each preset does. Now with my current system I didn't need to set a preset. My amd system I had to use preset 4. Again you will need to find a sweet spot for your system. If you have a amd phenom quad core or up you should be good. If you bought a pc within the last 3-4 years with a mid-range video card you should be good. DON'T disable frame limiting.

Once that is figured out while still in the core GS settings at the top click gs window and set your preferred resolution for windowed mode. I kept this default and just changed aspect ratio to widescreen 16:9.

Once you get this tuned to your system go into your video card control panel, nvidia control panel, ati ccc. Time to take care of the jaggies. I went to program settings and made a custom profile for the pcsx2.exe. I got anisotropic filtering at 16x, AA at 8x, Triple buffering on, v sync on(a must). Again how much aa you use is all up to your vid card. you may have to play with this to find a sweet spot. This is not like a pc game where more frames are better. You want to be around 60 fps. In fact I got this game up to over 100 fps but things are too fast, commentators sound like them auction guys lol.

Here's a video showing you exactly what my settings look like and a brief gameplay using fraps.

Any questions fire away. Excuse the long paragraphs, my organizational skills suck and this is my first write up on how to do something.

Now you have to find a way to mod the game, the players, the courts, and so on and you could have a brand new game.

He probably doesn't care for editing it, lol. But if he did I could see the possibility of hex editing. BTW, this is a really cool idea. I haven't tried to run a ps2 emulator and I'm completely unsure if my specs are good enough, if I post mine can you tell me if my specs will work for the emu?

Sure post your specs and I'll look into it. And your correct, outside of making custom rosters, hex editing will be the only way which I know nothing about. Again I recommend the ps3 or Xbox 360 version. This is for the pc only guys who need a college sim fix and or the guys that want to run this mobile like me.
One thing I did notice that we have over the console guys is the graphics. When you crank up the aa etc it trumps the ps3 and Xbox versions in the eye candy department lol
