This is a serious thread btw. I've never played it.
Is it something I should get? And if so. Why?

It's $3. If you don't like it, you're only out $3.

It is probably one of the most realistic basketball games I have played. No matter how good you get at the game, winning is never routine, much like actual basketball. Also, legacy mode (basically = dynasty mode) is really in depth, especially recruiting and the presentation as a whole is very good. There are weekly wrap up shows with Bryant Gumbel and Clark Kellog and the commentary of Verne Lundquist and Billy Packer is very good as well, IMO. Also court graphics are extremely detailed. No generic courts like the NCAA series.

I found it for $7 when I got it back in December, and upon searching on Google, the lowest price they have listed (for the 360 version) is $30!
But if you look at a local game store, you should be able to find it for less than $10 used.

This game is literally YEARS ahead of its time. The gameplay, graphics, and especially legacy mode are absolutely amazing.

The dynasty mode is so deep with great stat tracking, realistic coaching carousol , presentation, and in depth recruiting, it is easy to get hooked on. The gameplay isnt too bad and no game is a gimme, no matter how good your team is. If you can get it cheap, you should get it.

The depth of Legacy mode and the tournament selection show are the two biggest reasons for me.

The only game of its type that really surpasses it, is Sports Interactive's Football (soccer) Manager series.

I'm not that concerned with the graphics, but rather the simulation and for that it is still great.

The legacy mode is what make the game. Recruiting is really in depth, you can recruit kids from their freshman year through their senior season, you can even play with the recruits in summer league games to scout out their game. I also
really enjoy the player development as well, you can do drills weekly and even choose what specific skills each player develops during practice each week. As others have mentioned the coaching carousel is fun too. I've played 2k8 since the game dropped, and I still find new things.
