They'll never be safe.

Re: Are 360's safe to buy ....yet?

My launch unit died about a week ago, and now I have a new one manufactured in August of 06, that is a lot more quiet than my launch system... So hopefully that means that it wont die on me after 1 year and 2 months, like my launch system did...

just FYI, I believe microsoft has extended the warranties on all 360's to a full year as well.

Re: Are 360's safe to buy ....yet?

I haven't heard of newer 360's dying out, but then most of the guys I know have had them a year now. Based upon the past track record, I would not buy a 360 without an extended warranty.

The add on HD-DVD player will only upconvert regular DVD's if you connect the 360 to your TV with the VGA cable. There is no upconverting of DVD's over component cables. That's the main reason I did not get the HD-DVD drive. My TV does not have a VGA input.

Re: Are 360's safe to buy ....yet?

I bought mine right around Thanksgiving and it's been great.

I keep it horizontal with the "rubber eraser in each corner" strategy and the only problem I've had was College Hoops 2k7 froze once when I was editing a ton of the rosters.

Besides that all my DVD's and games have played flawlessly.

Re: Are 360's safe to buy ....yet?

I bought mine last June and it died on me a couple of weeks ago. I'm waiting to get mine back now, it's been about 8 days since I sent it in. If I were to do it again I would by the Warranty from Best Buy or the store you get it from so you can just get another one right away.

even if they do break, just get the warranty. No need to really worry if you can get one in the store again.

My launch unit died yesterday. Hopefully I get a box early next week.
