did you get free repair too and how long did MS say it would take to get your box? i'm thinking they told me 4 days but i can't remember. also, how much of a hassle, ie how many things did they ask you and have you check, before you got authorization to return? i had to go through a ton of questions and stuff before they'd allow me to return mine, of course like i said, mine is not dead either..

I have had a lot of problems with the 360 but my newest October 06 unit seems really good. Plus thanks to Rodster and Candy I have the $29.99 Target extended warranty. Get thee to Tar-jay.

The add on HD-DVD player will only upconvert regular DVD's if you connect the 360 to your TV with the VGA cable. There is no upconverting of DVD's over component cables. That's the main reason I did not get the HD-DVD drive. My TV does not have a VGA input.
You just ruined my day because my TV doesn't have VGA either. That's also one of the reasons I preferred the 360 because the PS3 blueray drive didn't upconvert. I don't get it because if the component cables has the bandwidth to play HiDef movies why wouldn't they be able to have upconverted DVD's pass thru it.

Copyright restrictions don't allow upconversion through analog (component) connections, but VGA isn't subject to the same restrictions. It doesn't have anything to do with the bandwith of the component cables.

It's too bad because the upconverted DVD's look fantastic through the 360 VGA connection.

I bought the two year warranty two or three days after launch just to be on the safe side. They said the turnaround would be about 3 weeks or so, but I'm not holding my breath that it's gonna be that quick. The guy made me go thru three or four things before he gave me a repair authorization.

From what I understand, the only real problem is that the game Dead Rising just gives you the 3 red rings of Death. All the other problems haven't been happening.

Then again, I don't have a 360 yet but you get the point.
