True.

If they allow Epic to offer free content, it makes every other dev look bad charging for it. The result would be less content for us. Why bother enhancing their games if it stops netting them profit? Either that or whore out content and live with tons of in-game ads and viral marketing heaped onto the experience. In a prefect world, there would be a middle ground. Really cheap DLC with just a light coat of marketing/advertising on top.

Microsoft's strategy is very obvious, nickel and dime everyone and everything to death. Proprietary peripherals that are extremely overpriced like the HDD and wifi adapter (granted, there are other options for wireless) are also part of the plan.

Sony has done plenty of things wrong, but they've been smart by using standard HDDs, blue tooth headsets, and hell, internal wifi

why don't they just partner up with mountain dew and make it free, but you have to get a few caps or something?

There's been free DLC before, but it's been sponsored.

Re: Microsoft holding back free content from its customers

If anybody has any doubts this is happening, listen to the newest 1Up Yours.

Tim Sweeney and Mark Rein from Epic Games confirm they have DLC they want to give away for free but Microsoft stopped this from happening.

If you'r wondering why Epic wants to give away content for free when they know people would be willing to pay for it, they said it keeps people from trading in the game and makes the customer happy.

The guys said they have been sitting on 4 new maps.

And I thought Microsoft was all about giving the consumer what they want.......

Yeah ... I'm not sure how angry people should be getting about "no free content" when there's been free content.

Re: Microsoft holding back free content from its customers

The reason it's not free is because Microsoft charges the game companies to put the stuff up on their servers. And when Microsoft charges the game companies the game companies pass the buck to us and then tell us they wanted it to be free "but microsoft wouldn't allow us". It's a joke. If the game companies wanted it to be free it could be, they'd just have pay microsoft, but instead of doing (losing money) that they try to make microsoft look bad. Bandwidth isn't free people.
