Yep. It's well worth the money. Once the controller shows it's low on batteries, just plug it into the 360 and it will start charging. You can also shutoff the 360 and the controller will continue to charge (360 will be in a low power mode and automatically shuts off when the controller is charged).

Buy high capacity rechargeable AA batteries and a charger from Walmart. They last longer than the MS ones. I can go about a month and a half on mine.

If you have the play and charge kit you can also just plug it into your computer thru a usb port to charge too.
