Re: May NPD

It's already on HD-DVD, but I don't see it being a factor like it was for VHS/Betamax. In reality, both Blu-ray and HD-DVD are doing horrible.

Yeah, porn has already chosen HD-DVD and it's not going to matter like it did. It was a HUGE deal to be able to bring porn into your home when VHS came out. Before that, it was only available in sketchy theaters. I can't imagine going to a porn-theater with a bunch of other dudes in there. The ability to buy it on VHS and watch it in the comfort of your own home was huge. Nowadays, it's so available to anyone with a PC, DVD player, etc., that the actual DVD format isn't really going to have a big impact, like it did with VHS. Also, most people haven't even upgraded to HDTV, nevermind HD DVD players.

So Microsoft did the right thing by making the HD-DVD player an add-on option rather than having it stuffed down our throats like Sony did. I most likely won't be utilizing an high def format player anytime soon, and I'm glad I have a choice to not get one with my 360.

Wanna know what I've done so far for HD movie content? XBox Live Marketplace to my hard drive. I finally watched Italian Job for the first time... in HD! I loved it.

But it's not that big a deal to me to spend such a premium on these add-ons and new DVD discs. I'm fine with either content on my hard drive, DirecTV pay per view, and/or bit torrent.

Face it, the PS3 is losing because there are hardly any exclusives for Sony, when Nintendo and Microsoft are getting exclusives left and right.
To show how bad things are going for Sony, Ace Combat 6 appears to be exclusive to the 360.

Re: May NPD

Maybe it's just because I traded in my 360 for a PS3, but I still expect the PS3 to make a strong push. There are just too many people who grew up playing PS1 and PS2 who are Sony loyal now. I've got several friends who won't even consider a 360 because PS is what they know - they're just waiting for a price drop on the PS3.

One thing I hope Sony and MS have learned: People buy game consoles to play games. Enterainment hubs, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, etc. are all secondary to gaming. Nintendo is proving that right now. Though it's just a matter of time before 360 and/or PS3 catch up and surpass the Wii.

I'm still waiting on both the PS3 and 360. I'll only buy one, and right now it's up to them. I've held off on the 360 because of the (lack of) reliability, and the PS3 because of the price. Whichever one solves their respective issue first will be the one I go with.

Re: May NPD

If that's the case, you'll be a 360 owner when the 65nm chip-equipped systems ship this fall.
