Good News for us PSP owners

PSP has officially been unlocked to its full 333Mhz, it used to be at 222Mhz. Dark Alex and his homebrew team have been running PSP at 333Mhz for a while. Now Sony has open the flood gates.

It means better loading speeds

It means better looking games

A Sony Computer Entertainment representative has confirmed to Shacknews that developers can now take full advantage of the PSP's CPU following the late May release of the system's version 3.50 firmware

Very good news....now I can play some games right away instead of letting it load all night and play in the morning....lol.

Re: Good News for us PSP owners

Explain this to me slowly as I am computer illiterate....

But why wouldn't they have "unleashed" the full power of it from day one?

I mean, why make it 333...but only use 222?

I own a PSP. I haven't turned it on for months now. My wife uses it, thankfully, to play lumines. Otherwise it would have been a complete waste.

I do have PES for it though and likely will load it on soon

Pretty bizarre on Sony's part.

I'm thinking about getting a PSP, especially with the current price drop, but the rumors of a newer model are holding me off.

Because of one giant inherent design flaw in the PSP.......Battery Life. Game developers will now have to wrestle with trying to design a game where the PSP might only play for 2-3 hours at 333mhz. Sony could have included a much larger battery but decided against it. I always keep my PSP connected to an outlet so running a game at full throttle won't have any effect on my battery.

Hopefully the next PSP will overcome this woeful oversight and drop the UMD drive and use an LED screen which will give back extra hours of battery life.

Rumors have it that they are going to use a LCD screen similar to what the DS Lite has for the PSP Slim. The UMD hatch is going to be dropped, but come back as a UMD slot. The rumored 8mb of memory on board is said to be dropped to 4 mb of memory on board. Their even going to be redesigning the nub and the buttons.

Sony wants to try and keep this thing under $170.

I read these over at Kotaku earlier in the week.

Re: Good News for us PSP owners

Sounds plausible, but my wish list is for the PSP2. I would love to see an LED screen, no UMD whatsoever, a 16 gig flash drive or the can pull a Nintendo and go cartridge based. With crazy Ken no longer ruining development anything is possible now.

The only reason its going to 33Mhz is they have "IMPROVED THE BATTERY LIFE" all those other things you here is just pure speculation. Their will be a PSP v.2 coming in the fall with a better screen and a little bit smaller and possibly 8gb flash memory built in, This will make it easier to download games and music and movies since sony has shut down their connect site and all of those employees have been moved over to the Playstation Store.
