360 Rookie Seeks Advice re:system/games

I am buying an xbox 360 this afternoon and i need guidance. I have always been a PS guy, but I don't like what I see from the PS3, so I will give the 360 a shot.

1) Should I buy the basic or the package that comes with a hard drive? Will I be using the hard drive or will I still need a memory card to get rosters? Do I need to buy anything apart for HD or optimum graphics? How much for an extra controller?

2) Will any 360 transfer kit work for downloading rosters for NCAA?

3) Should I bother getting MLB 2K7 or should I instead go with The Bigs? I want another sports game besides NCAA, preferably baseball. Maybe golf or Winning 11. What do you guys recommend?

4) Xbox live - is there a monthly fee? What is it?

XBL is $50 a year

Get The Bigs...my favorite baseball game of the year.

1. You'll probably want the hard drive to save all of your rosters plus demos and other downloadables from Xbox Live. You can find hard drives on eBay for around $50, so if you don't need/want the wireless controller, you could just buy the Core system and a hard drive from eBay.

I second this. The Bigs is great. It's definitely an arcade game though so if you're into a more sim experience you may want to go with MLB2k7. I think both games have demos that you can download from XBL if you want to try before you buy.

Also, I think you're going to want the HD to download demos and arcade games and stuff. Even the larger 512k memory card won't hold most of the demos.

1. You will definitely need a HDD. DEFINITELY go with the Premium package not the Core. The Premium comes out of the box ready for wireless, HD gaming. The Core comes with a wired controller and is not HD capable without extra cords.

2. Yeah I think so... XSATA and the Datel transfer kit are the only ones I've heard of. I think you will need a memory card with them as well. Grab a used 64MB memory card from EB or Gamestop (or eBay) for this.

3. I'd recommend The Bigs as well. It's a lot of fun.

4. XBL has a yearly cost of $50.

Hope that helps!
