I bought a new HDTV Plasma that supports 1080i.

So I hooked up my 360 and changed the settings to 1080i. It looks fine, but I noticed in some games like MLB2k7, there is some slowdown that wasn't on my old tv. But on Madden 08, game plays smooth and without problems.

But then my friend mentioned to me that I should change it to 720p since 720 the games will play at 60fps whereas 1080i 30fps.

Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? From a visual perspective, I cannot tell any difference between 720p and 1080i. For gameplay, I haven't done the test yet but in madden 08, game seems to run fine.

So should I leave it at 1080i? I use my 360 for dvd movies too. or change it up to 720p? What do you guys do?

What's your native resolution? If it's something like 1256x728 or something, then go 720p.

Since it only supports 1080i you probably have a 720p native display. The 1080i signal is converted to your display resolution much like standard definition 480i.

If you have a 1080p native display, then set the Xbox to 1080i.

If you can't tell visually, why is this even a concern? Just leave it on 720p.

If you can't tell that's all that matters. Do the games you know stutter do so on 720p?

For smoothness of gameplay i'd leave it a 720p. Truthfully I can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080i. I have my 360 and PS3 both set to 720p even though I can achieve 1080i.

I thought it was always best for your 360 to be set to your TV's native resolution so the less scaling your TV/360 does, the better it looks

Okay I am confused. My TV supports 1080i, so should my 360 be set to 720p or 1080i for optimum results?

720p you'll have smoother gameplay and you won't tell the difference.

1080p is a whole different story.
