Are you able to play music via mp3 player/music from the hard drive while playing games like the 360? I will be getting a PS3 on Friday and this is a concern. I believe there it was mentioned that this should be corrected in some kind of update. Thanks in advance for your help.

Nope you can only do that with the 360.

Sony has sent developers kits to be able to do this. It should be released in a system update in a bit. I can't find the link for it, but read it this morning.

Nice!! One last question in regards to HDMI. What are my options for running audio though my surround system and speakers? I believe that the HDMI only gives audio/video through the TV itself, but like listening through my cheap Phillips surround system 5.1.

The PS3 has an optical output so you can run the sound directly into your surround system.
