Sony to Market PS3 As Blu-Ray Player

Sony is planning to refocus its PlayStation 3 marketing campaign by emphasizing that the console includes a Blu-ray player.

That's according to a Financial Times article.

The publication reports that Sony is aiming to improve sales of both the PS3 game console and the new high-def disc format.

Sounds good, but isn't this what they've already been doing from the start?

So, not to take this way out of context, but is it possible that Sony messed up badly by combining a great console with a new product that might not be as successful as they need it to be?

I think this new approach of advertising the PS3 will definitely benefit sales but I still cringe at the thought.

They are combining two different product lines and banking on each providing for the other.

It just seems like a bad move.

Aren't the Samsung stand alone players the same price (if not cheaper) than the PS3?

Not going to ensnare non-gamers if the player alone is a hundred dollars cheaper...

Right now thats all my PS3 is, with the some Warhawk thrown in every so often.

It is a real shame too since they have some nice hardware..................under that hood.
