Bad Review Score = Fired?

"We've heard an unsettling rumor today from an anonymous tipster that longtime game reviewer Jeff Gerstmann from Gamespot has been let go. According to the source, Gerstmann was fired "on the spot" due to advertiser pressure for his review of Eidos' Kane & Lynch: Dead Men."

If this is true, it makes it hard for me to support CNET and Gamespot. Reviews should not be paid for and I prefer them to be independent from outside influences.

Yeah ridiculous, just read about this a few minutes ago on Destructoid. Good to know they care so much about their readers and getting fair and impartial reviews on their site so we can make the best possible decisions on what games to buy. I never really read gamespot anyways, maybe once every week or so but now I'm just never going read it ever again.

Update - 7:12 AM EST: Jeff has confirmed his firing to us via e-mail, but says he's "not really able to comment on the specifics of my termination." He added that he's "looking forward to getting back out there
and figuring out what's next." We're still digging.

I guess this is what you get for putting in 10 years with the company. It's not like Jeff was some coffee getting intern, he was the editorial director of the site. Now he's out of a job and Christmas is around the corner. This firing has to have a impact on other reviews from the GS crew. I'm sure nobody wants to lose their job over giving a fairly big game a bad review.
