I might do it if the price was say 75% off.

Are you guys familiar with the grid?

THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, “the grid” will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.
It goes live this summer.

When it is fully implemented, dvd's, blu-ray, and the like will be a thing of the past.

I am sure Apple is already working on iMovie.

Infrastructure like that takes forever to make it to homes....look at the trouble that cable companies have with regards to bandwidth and HDTV...It's not easy to upgrade a city (or country's) infrastructure when you consider the size of the US. I'm all for it, believe me...just don't think it'll hit as many people as you think anytime soon.

I am not thinking this year or next year residentially, but Sony's estimate of 2018 seems pretty realistic.

Trying to take out the used games market which is a killer. I don't know about you guys but I'd rather pay $5.00 for Indigo Prophecy than $15.00 to download it. Downloads for movies but that's about it. I want the games in my house physically.

Well considering the fact that 10 years from now Gas will be $18/gallon....I tend to agree with you.

I like having physical copies of games and movies but I can easily see everyone downloading instead in 10 years time. I saw that someone said bandwidth might be an issue, but just look at where we were in the mid to late 90's. Most of the people I knew were using 56k. I know that alot of the infrastructure broadband uses was already in place but if the demand is high enough I can definitely see this happening in 10 years. Though a 90% - 10% ratio seems way off to me... Maybe 50 50.. who knows.

I download a lot but I'm not looking forward to downloading games. Like Altimus, I like having the physical copy, especially since games cost so much I don't want to risk having a problem with my hard drive and having $60(or however much games are going to cost later) disappear.
