Xbox Live Disconnects probably ruining my rep - what could I do?

My Xbox live connections seem to be pretty crappy, at least in Carcasonne. I have to routinely log in and out a few times to even get an online game started. I just like to play a game or 2 at at time with randoms . . . don't have much more time than that.

Lately, I get a lot of disconnects in the middle of games and I think my rep is suffering for it. The worst part is that live usually tracks the people you play against, but it doesn't after live craps out on me and I get a disconnect. This way I can't try to apologize to the people I can't finish a game with. I was able to remember one name, but xbox.com doesn't have a search engine for me to look for the names of players that I only slightly remember.

I've only been on live for 2 months overall, this time with a free trial that a generous soul here at OS generously provided me with. Whenever I play friends with GTA 4, the connections are solid . . . it's just the Carcasonne ones that are messed up. I think I may just quit playing that game before the online world sees me through my rep rating as a @^#$^&* (fill in with something creative).

Has anyone had problems with live for just one game only? Is there anything I can do about this short of calling my cable company or microsoft? Thanks.

Do the XBox Live test and check the NAT. It should be Open which is good. Moderate is okay, Strict is bad.

I remember a couple of years ago when I began my descent into the NAT nightmare. Seemed like I messed with that stupid thing for weeks before finally getting it to OPEN. What a horrid thing to have messed up.

Checked it out and the NAT was open. Maybe it's just an intermittent thing. Thanks for suggesting to look here.

You know my friend had this issue and turns out he had a bad modem. That could very well be your issue. I'd take your modem into your cable company and request a different one. His was even the same way as yours in the fact that he could play some games just fine all day long but others would be randomly disconnected.

That just might be the problem because this cable modem is 7 years old now. I can't believe how fast time goes by.

Can't ask the cable company to do anything about it though because that I bought it back then for 150 bucks. I saved by doing this though because it would have cost me 60 bucks a year to rent this thing and I came out ahead in year 3. Probably it's time to invest in a new one. Thanks for looking out.

Is your 360 connected wirelessly or is it hooked up directly to a switch.

It's connected through ethernet to my router.
