The biggest thing about this though is less wear and tear on the drive.
Glad you brought that up. With a 20 gig hard drive I'll probably only have room for one game that'll probably be Mass Effect.

Seriously.
I thought about doing that but my current Xbox is 2 years old...I have some disposable income at the moment...and now I have a TV with HDMI inputs available to use...so I think I'm just going to buy an Elite sometime within the next month.

For those that have...how long did it take for you to get the data migration kit from MS?

Also...which place offers the easiest to use extended warranty? I'm talking...if my box craps out, I want to be able to go to a store with the broken console and get a new one that day. Which stores, if any, offer that sort of service?

Best Buy

The cable takes about a week to get.

Best Buy is great, I just exchanged my PS3 for a new one yesterday and they asked no questions. I love their return policy if you buy the extended warranty.

Thanks. When you upgraded to the Elite, what did you do in the meantime? Can you use your old HDD on the new system? I don't want to start using the new HDD until I have all of my files on it.

Don't know but the good news is that after the update, they shouldn't have to take Live down for further updates again. I read where with this new system in place, they can update the dashboard dynamically now, so it'll be more like when Sony upgrades their back end system on the PS3.

Live won't be down for this. Whenever it goes up, you just download it.

They already did the server maintenance for this last week.
