Re: November NPD

I feel bad for those 300K people who bought Wii Music............a game that averaged about a 3 in the review scores. That's Nintendo trying to cash in (and failing miserably) on the success of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

Re: November NPD

I still believe LBP could have been a system mover if the advertising was better for it. No one knew about it and than it was delayed for a week. I'm sure if they have $299 PS3 LBP bundle, it would move.

The bottom line though is $199 VS $399.

Especially now, you can get the $199 core and pick up a 20GB HDD for $19.99 and call it a day.

Maybe the cores didn't move a lot before, but they are moving a lot, at least locally.

Like at my local BB, they have the Xbox area next to the PS3 area. A mom or a non-hardcore gamer comes in for a system, looks at one side - $399.99 VS $199.99.

Even though that is a 80GB VS 256MB, Blu Ray, and WiFi, the average consumer won't see this.

Wow!!

Wasn't this the year of Playstation?

Sony is in trouble, they better hope and pray that they get God of War 3 out soon and that it moves systems, otherwise, not really sure what else they can do.

Re: November NPD

Basically the PS3 did 360 numbers, the 360 did Wii (with shortages) numbers, and the Wii did what the PS2 did (and then some) and broke it's record

You would think those that enjoyed that series on the 2nd one, already have a PS3 by now... or maybe not. Maybe it will be like the MGS launch where it moved consoles the first month.

All of Sony's money is on Killzone 2 right now. From what I've read, everyone said it is amazing. This is the best chance for Sony to move consoles.

I still think it was the year of PS3. Not saying they beat out the competition but it was a much improved year for themselves with software, their online network, and all the new things they introduced.

No price drop,a crap economy, and cheaper Blu-Ray players; if Sony expected to improve this holiday season on last year they were being delusional. The PS3 is what it is at this point and not until the next price drop will it see a spike in sales. Given that Sony can now sell stand-alone Blu Ray players at $299 the PS3 also could be in line for a price reduction sometime soon.

LittleBigPlanet November Sales Revealed

Quote:
Well, LBP moved 141,000 units in the United States during November 2008, according to figures provided to Gamasutra by the NPD Group. The title had debuted eighth in the October console software sales charts with 215,000 units sold.

November's weaker showing dropped the title out of the top 20 across all consoles. Across all PlayStation 3 software in November, though, LittleBigPlanet was ranked fourth behind Activision's Call of Duty: World at War, Sony's own Resistance 2, and Midway's brawler, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Quote:
While Sony has said that it expects LittleBigPlanet to do well in the market over the long term, it may still be concerned to observe sales of just over 350,000 units in the United States during two of the most popular shopping months of the year.

As a comparison point, the top 10 game SKUs for November alone in the U.S. all sold 297,000 copies or more.
Valkyria Largely Ignored by U.S. Gamers

Quote:
Sega's Valkyria Chronicles was never expected to be a huge hit in the U.S.--Japanese tactical RPGs aren't exactly lighting up the charts these days.

Nevertheless, pockets of gamers admired the stylish PS3 exclusive for its unique look and interesting mix of real-time and turn-based tactics. Those fans might like to know that the game sold just 33K units in the U.S. during November, according to NPD Group.

NPD's David Riley told Edge the game didn't manage to crack the top 100 game SKUs for November, whose software sales roster was ruled by titles including World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, Gears of War 2, Wii Fit and Call of Duty: World at War.

Valkyria Chronicles released on November 4 in the U.S. The title first shipped in Japan in late April, where it performed much better, shifting 77K units in its first week. It debuted at number three behind blockbusters Mario Kart Wii and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, according to Media Create.

But in a U.S. shopping season that included such commercial heavy-hitters, it's no surprise that this uncommon title was lost in the shuffle.
