When I press the PS button to turn on my PS3, the controller always comes on as controller #2 instead of #1. Anyway to change this ??

Do you have rock band instruments plugged in, or anything else in the usb slots? Happens to me also.

If you have the USB BR remote, that is your #1.

ahh, that must be it. I have a USB thing plugged in so I can use my harmony remote to control the ps3

Yeah, me too...just have to remember to change it to 1 while the game's starting up (hold the button down)...sucks, but oh well.

Same thing happens to me since I have the USB attachment plugged in for Buzz and it is a complete pain as for some reason I always forget when firing up GTA.

Mine does this too because of different things plugged into my PS3 but I only have 2 or 3 games that it really matters or not. It's annoying for the games that make you be player 1 before you can start, but most games aren't that way (or at least most of my games aren't that way).
