If I'm not mistaken, the batteries in the PS3 controllers are not replaceable. Once they're gone, the controller is useless.

They are replaceable, it's a 3.7v Li-ion with a 2 pin molex style connector, though the batteries are not widely available. I believe Sony said at one point they would replace a controller that needed a new battery, but you'll have to send it in.

Anyway, dealextreme.com is a good place to get stuff like this cheap, it will take a couple weeks to get it though because it comes over on a slow boat from China, but it's cheap.

Replacement instructions are in the manual.
