Question... I know we don't know yet. But is it possible that when the slim is announce for 299.99 "If it is at 299.00" The larger ps3's will be phased out and price dropped??

Yeah, if they need to move stock on the old model PS3's, I'd image you will see some price cuts. It is already happening to an extent with the more aggressive bundles.

I hope they get it down to $299. The PSP Go is similarly cheaper to make, yet it still got priced at $250. They may just release this as the new "premium" ps3 model, while dropping the fat ps3 down to $299 to clear out inventory.

Yeah, the one difference I would say at this point is that the PSP Go will be sold alongside the classic PSP. We don't know yet if the fat PS3 will continue to be produced, or if Sony will streamline to one model (I would bet on the latter, but it will then be interesting to see what happens with pricing once all the fat PS3 stock has been cleared out).

Well the fat PS3 obviously won't be continued. Sony even said in May that the PS3 still costs 10% more than they sell them for. Dropping the price only makes them lose more money, which is why they made a slim to reduce manufacturing costs. Anything they do with the fat ps3 now is to clear inventory, like bundles or a price drop.

With the slim, they have the luxury of being able to do a permanent price drop, or just sit at the current price with a console that now loses less money. It doesn't seem like MS is as willing to race to the bottom in prices anymore now that they have Natal to worry about bundling in with the 360. They're even going to do a fake $100 price drop with the elite, similar to what Sony did shuffling their ps3 models around.

Never got the point of slims. I bought a PS2 slim (Huge mistake) and it crashed after a month...I called Sony but they could no do anything.
