There are no signs untill the first time it yellow lights. Then it works for a bit and does it again. Then it starts working less and less untill it just doesn't at all anymore. It's usually a few months after 2 years based on the list in the Sony forums.

I've got a 60gig launch unit. Thus far no issues. Nothing weird or out of the ordinary yet. Thankfully.

I exchanged my 60 GB for a 160 GB last night. Didn't care about backwards compatibility as I have a PS2. I feel better now. It's amazing how paranoid message boards can make you.

LOL! I have been paranoid about the 360 and PS3 too............yet I had a Wii die out on me a few years back.

Last generation, my PS2 and XBOX (both launches) had zero problems. This generation, I have gone through 3 XBOX 360's (I finally just sold the last one when MS reapired it and no longer have one) and 1 Wii (the laser went out). My 60 gig PS3 was great, but I didn't want to add it to the casualty list! It is hard to have peace of mind on console reliability this generation.
