I'm almost mad that I sent mine in. After reading about how to fix them, I'm wanting to try and do it. Shoot, even in your local region, I bet a person could make it a decent paying hobby.

Re: Has The RROD/Other defects Pushed You Towards Sony Next Time??

I recommend people don't buy Sony. I've had 4 Xboxs and 3 of them RRODed. I had problems with Sony and they don't stand behind their products. Microsoft always offered a free fix, but Sony will make you pay. Some of my 360s have been out of warranty and the they still fixed them (got tired of refixing them, I do it myself now). Sony is just too naive to admit their console have major problems. They denied the overheating problems and any other you may have. I just hope everyone with a PS3 has a warranty.

I've had a 360 and PS3 go up in smoke.

I'm probably going to take a wait and see approach. I don't see myself buying either console at launch. I want to see what games come out as well as other features (blu ray drive?, hard drive space, etc....).

Probably MS. I like their whole Xbox Live/Dashboard direction. I like my PS3 (and enjoy the exclusives), but only primarily have it for a Blu-ray player.

I think I'm going one console next generation, because I think the systems will mostly do the same things with no big differences like drive type.

I just don't dig the Sony dashboard and entire online experience.

Also, I have more confidence in MS to deliver a rock solid system the next time compared to Sony. Sounds dumb, but after this RROD debacle you know MS is gonna be pushing very hard to make sure the next system is perfect. Sony doesn't have that motivation.

Re: Has The RROD/Other defects Pushed You Towards Sony Next Time??

since I haven't had a RROD(*knock on wood*), it hasn't made me want to not get a future Xbox console.

Sony on the other hand, I had to replace my PS2 at least 3 times(don't currently own a PS3, have access to use one though through a friend, his hasn't had any problems so far). still have my original Xbox working. I'm on my 2nd 360. my original 360 had the ethernet port die, so it was no longer able to get online and I hate wireless. MS fixed it for free despite not having a warranty so it worked out.

Isn't that the truth with them this generation. They thought they were going to ride in on their white horse and everyone was going to follow suite.

The PS3 is a very solid machine, but Sony just got a little cocky and didn't think the Xbox would push them like it has...

Obviously I'll have to decide which to get when we know about the systems/release dates, but I enjoy MS's dashboard and online strategy more. Sony ignored that for the longest time and has paid for it a bit.

I'm very interested to see what happens next gen. Sony could retake the title as console devs program for, or Xbox could keep the crown.

During a recent interview with Japanese economic website Toyo Keizai, ever-charming Ken Kutaragi had this to say about Sony's goal for the PS3: "for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."
http://www.joystiq.com/2005/07/06/so...playstation-3/ (from 2005)

"I will work more hours to buy a PS3." I think a little is completely understanding the cockiness that Katuragi had (if not Sony as a whole).
