Just got some Tritton gaming headphones...

My situation is this: I have a regular 5.1 system, but it's pretty old. It still works fine, and since I live in an apartment I can't really crank the thing anyway. Not to mention the wife who doesn't appreciate the loudness that the system puts out. So I find myself using headphones a lot of the time anyway. I've just been using basic crappy headphones. Well, lo and behold the headphone jack on my surround receiver broke. Actually I opened it up and the circuit board the phone jack is attached to somehow got cracked in half. So this was the thing that gave me the idea to start looking into new headphones.


So after some research I jumped on some ax720s on Ebay. I was going to go for the Pros but the lowest I found them for was 159.99. I got my 720s for 83.00 off of Ebay. The Pros would be nice with the 4 drivers in each ear, but I couldn't justify that much more money. Plus it seems the 720s are a little more versatile as far as being able to use them with an mp3 player and such. Still, if I wouldn't have found the ax720s for this price I probably would have bit on the Pros. The 720s retail at about 129.99 at most places and if I had to go in at that price I probably would have shelled out the extra 30 to get the true surround.

So if you have these or any other gaming headphones..either real 5.1 or simulated...let me know how you like them. Hopefully I didn't make a bad decision. Keep in mind I'm not an MLG guy or anything like that. I'm a definite casual gamer. I just want a nice audio experience even when I can't crank up my regular system(which as I said, I can hardly ever do).

For anyone who is interested I'll come back to this post and leave some thoughts when I receive the headphones and get to try them.

Great choice IMO!!! I picked up a pair of these for the retail price at Best Buy last week and could not be happier. Congrats and enjoy your quality purchase. Peace!!!

I've had these for a few months and I love them. Though for some reason I have a problem with my mic popping when I use them with my 360.

It kind of depends on your setup and if you're going to be using the mic for chat. Check out this guys review. He shows the setup and how to switch them at around the 2:15 mark:

Yeah I saw that on Amazon. Thanks anyway.

It shows me that I would need to DC the optical cable depending on which system I want to play. I was hoping it would have two inputs and I overlooked it somehow.

Nope. There isn't two inputs. That's the main thing is the optical cable. As far as I know none of the Tritton products have two inputs...even their most top of the line stuff. I do have to say that if you need to use headphones these things are really top quality. It's weird to have headphones that make the sound feel like it's not sitting right on your ears, but that's what these do. The sound has a spaciousness to it. I imagine the AX Pro set that is truly 5.1 is even more impressive, but you will pay for that impressiveness. Still, I am very happy with these. For those that are married and/or those that have neighbors I can vouch for the quality of these headphones. If you want to spend the extra to get the true 5.1 feel free..but if not these are about as good as it gets.
