Re: Sony Announces 'PlayStation Protection Plan'

I'd do this for sure if it would cover my 3 year old system. I didn't realize it had to still be within it's first year warranty.

Today (5/4) you could get a 3-year warranty from Squaretrade for 38.99 on a Slim 120 GB purchased at $299. There is a coupon out there that works today for 30% off making it even cheaper. The first year you have double coverage and then have two additional years.

The one offered by Sony is two additional years at $59.99 so it is more costly. My question is besides cost being a pro for going with Squaretrade are there any reasons one would choose the more expensive option offered by Sony? Would the service offered by Sony be better than the service offered by Squaretrade? I have never used Squaretrade so I am unfamiliar with how it works.

It has the original factory sealed wrap on it, something that no refurbs have ever had. And I've seen the difference between a used system and a new system, no matter the system. They didn't do a good cleanup job on the thing, it simply hasn't been touched. Runs quietly as ever (refurbs are a bit loud normally), ventilation system was clean, and if this was a refurb for repair, this thing was not opened. Again, I've seen my share of used and new PS3's. This one has had limited usage, and has not been played.

It might help that I requested a new system as well after one refurb already messing up on me.

Same here Holic. If I do get a newer model I'll still keep my 60gig system forever. It will gop beside my NES's, Genesis , Dreamcast etc.... I really love it.
