360 doesn't sell in japan. The numbers that are important are the North America ones.

Well, only as far as those of us in the US are concerned. I'm sure global sales is plenty important, as is owning the Japanese market, etc.

Bingo. Just about everybody I know owns a 360 and only a handful of my friends have a PS3.

Probably cause in the U.S. the 360 has a much larger lead, like 7 million. Both consoles numbers are shipped numbers.
Wii's number is almost as much as PS3 and 360 combined at 72 mil.

As long as all 3 companies are using that as the measuring stick, it's a fair comparison.

Maybe not as accurate, but close enough.

And even looking at "sold" numbers isn't accurate b/c it doesn't take into account returns and exchanges.

The most important number, and this one is harder to find, is average numbers of game sold per console. Thats what developers and publishers care about. Last time I saw it, 360 had a huge lead in that category.
