May not be a success, but they've certainly put a lot of tech work into Kinect.

It seems like it needs a few more years in development.

Was looking for a place to put this. Don't think this is worth having another thread created.

Five More Years

Interesting where they think it will sell better than the 360 did when it first launched. Not the original XBOX, NOT the original XBOX......the XBOX 360 launch....I don't know who is making these predictions but I think they are very clouded. I just don't see it picking up as much as they assume it will. Is it just me??

I don't know if it will sell like some are claiming. I know Kudo thinks over 4 million. That's bold.

I do think though that Kinect is once again going to show that software plays a bigger role than hardware in the success of games. Kinect is launching with some silly concept games like your typical sports package, Kinectimals etc., but there are already some neat concepts in the works that I think will show value in what Kinect is.

In this month's Game Informer there is a screenshot of a fighting game that looks less "cartoonish" and more gritty. I read some things out of TGS of a horror type game and quickly thought of the possibilities in that. Developers will be creative and there will be some games that definitely turn some heads and lead to considering a purchase. That's where I think we have to separate it and not look at motion controls replacing traditional controls. That's not the future. I think though that motion can offer something different, and with the right implementation, we will see some really nice showings.

It will be interesting to see how Move sells this weekend...........it should give an indication of where people will be with this motion tech. If Kinect was $100, I can see them hitting crazy numbers. $150 is stretching it a bit, but the power of the xbox brand will probably help sell these.

When I compare Kinect's and Move's launch lineups, Kinect has the better software for launch while everyone in the media is saying that Move has the best hardware for motion. Software is key for hardware to sell. This is where I see Kinect selling well.

I hope Kinect and Move fail miserably so they will stop making this crap.

I still cant seperate my friends by Catagory on my Friendslist Microsoft, how about you work on that.

I'm still intrigued by Dance Central, at least. It seems like a killer app that demonstrates what Kinect can handle better than Move/Wii. There are certainly interesting applications that could be created with Kinect that can't necessarily be created successfully with Move/Wii.

I'll have to give it a try before I make a major observation on it, that's just my logical look into it.

And I think some of you are discounting the idea of Dance Central. Just Dance for the Wii was leading the charts in Europe, and wasn't doing too badly here either (last summer). I think if Harmonix knocks the ball out of the park with Dance Central (and let's face it, I think we can trust Harmonix at this point) it could sell a decent amount of Kinects. There is the fear that this could be a Sega 32x, though, which is worrisome.

That's the one game that interests me. My kids like the DDR and this takes that it to the next level. I'd even try it.
But $200 ($150 plus $50) is too much for just one game. Maybe once there are other games that look worthwhile or if the price drops I'll bite. Kinect bundled with Dance Central for $100 I would buy.
