My 360 drops my internet connection??? please help.

so for like the past 4-5 days, almost everytime i turn on my my 360 i cant get on to Live because my connection drops. my connection would be fine but as i try to connect to Live my computer suddenly says "you have limited to no connectivity".

at first i thought it was just the cable i was using because i switched it and it worked fine for a while. now its back to the same thing. the xbox says it has a conflict with the IP address sometimes and other times it says no signal from router or modem but the lights on the modem are fine. yes i am using a router and both ps3 and 360 are wired and my ps3 usually connnects fine. what gives?

Did you set the IP address on the xbox statically or DHCP?

im not sure exactly what u mean? everything is automatic though.

i did that when i tried a different ethernet cable and it was cool for a minute, then it started tripping again. u think i need a new router? the one i have is netgear

it depends on your router setup. Default is usually 192.168.1.245 or 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.1. If your computer can get on the internet goto START.. RUN.. (type) CMD (hit OK) then at the command prompt type IPCONFIG (enter) and you will see your IP address. If its a 192 address then put 192.168.1.70 or something in your XBOX address.

example;
IP ADDRESS=192.168.1.70
SUBNET=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.1.254 (this equals your routers address)

Some times resetting your router isn't enough, you have to reset your modem too. Meaning completely turning the power off to the modem and router. Keep it off for 30 seconds, turn the modem on 1st, let it boot up completely, then turn your router on.

In the long run, static IP is the best way to go. Just google it, it is dozens of videos on youtube showing you how to do it, takes 2 minutes.

Wouldn't hurt to check for a firmware update for the router.

did all of that and it still doesnt work. even bought a new CAT5 cable and it still does the same thing. i think its the router now. might be time to get a new one.

Unplug your router and modem both. Keep them unplugged for about 30seconds to a minute. Then plug the modem in first. Then plug the router.

yeah i tried that too. it got too the point where i would run the test and it would say its up and running, then i go and try to log in and it wouldnt let me. smh.

i tried a static IP ADDRESS no go. i even called time warner for the primary DNS SERVER NUMBERS. my computer only showed a primary server, not a secondary. so i just rolled with that, no go.

before 4 or 5 days ago, my Live was running cool, no problems. now this. both the ps3 and xbox wired to the same router and my ps3 stays online just fine. when i got home last night with the new cat5 cable it logged online when i first put it on. then about 2 minutes later it logged offline and stayed that way.

Wat should i look for in a router? I use a cable modem, my connection is 100mbs. The router i have only up to 54mbs. Does it make a difference?
