Need some help: PS3 won't cut on.

I've tried googling, but maybe someone here can help me.

I've been dreading this day for a long time now and I think my PS3 has finally messed up, but I hope I'm wrong.

I just sent someone an friend request and then suddenly my PS3 shut itself off. When I try to turn it back on, the main light quickly flashes blue then the red light tries to flash green and back to red and then starts flashing red.

It won't even boot up at all.. anyone have a clue what it could be ?

Just did some quick research and it appears my baby may have finally died.

I hope there's a chance of getting it repaired. I've had this thing for a long time, it's an old 40gb.

Sounds like you got the dreaded YLOD. I had a PS3 die on me like that a few months ago. I went out and bought a slim instead of bothering with it. If you look around here, there's a thread on how to fix the YLOD via Youtube video.

Good luck

Happened to mine yesterday

I'm taking mine to a console repair shop near by so I can get it working again in order to back up my saves and deactivate my accounts before moving on to a new PS3.

This is how far I've got..

I'm taking it apart myself, even though I plan to buy a new one.

I was able to take the blu ray player halfway apart and get NCAA 12 disk out and I'm about to put it back together and call around and see about getting it repaired.

If you decide to repair the system you have you might want to look at this site.

http://www.gophermods.com/

I have never used them for servicing my PS3 but I have heard others say that they do good work and have reasonable prices.
