XBOX Live for Free Starting July 1st?

Yesterday it was posted on several sites that XBOX Live would become free starting July 1st. For the end of the 360's life they would make online play free, but in order to use Facebook, Youtube or Crackle you would need a gold membership. I think it was just an April Fool's joke and the forum that originally posted it admitted to the rumor being a prank but I would like to know if you guys think Microsoft will really make online play free, partially to go even more ahead of the game since Playstation makes all these features free.

If it was anything more than an April Fools joke it would be reported on reputable news sites and not forums at this point.

It will never be free. Too much revenue is on the line to give that up. Besides maintaining a massive network costs money. I rather they get that revenue from members then get it from the budget of 1st party developers.
