Now I wonder, who would commit to this console for another 2 years? Unless this points to the time frame Microsoft plans on releasing the next Xbox; sometime Summer 2014.
With the 360 being used more for video and other media than for games, it's usefulness beyond this console generation is already proven, just as the PS3's blu-ray drive continues to make it useful for many even if they stopped buying games (or if a new generation of consoles is released).

Toss in a subscription to Zune, some free MS points, a Netflix sub, or something for your money and you could see people stick around for longer than 2 years.

We'll see what the $15/mo gets you, and if it will be a service that current members can upgrade to.

This is a bad deal. This deal is only for people that have no concept of how to manage their money, put everything on a credit card and pay the minimal monthly payment. It's a shame that this deal would ever be considered.

With that said it will sell through the roof.

It's official - http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/7/300...ontract-launch

It's just a way to get you a console for $99 initially out of pocket. Anyone can do it because it's a $15/mo contract and you get Live membership card(s) that can be applied to any account, new or old.

ETF from the article: That pesky early termination fee starts at $250 in months one through three, drops to $240 in month four, and drops by $12 every month following.

Biggest limitation of the deal is it's only via MS stores. If that's just a trial and expands to stuff like Walmart... good luck keeping up with demand.

Disappointed the $15 isn't attached to a higher tier of Live service or something though.

This is how believe the breakout between buying the console outright versus their proposed plan looks:

Plan A: XBOX w/ Kinect: $300, XBL for 2 years @$60/year = $420

Plan B: XBOX with Kinect: $100, XBL for 2 years @$15/Month = $460

Is this not correct?
Yeah, plus keep in mind that you can get deals on 1 year of XBL if you keep an eye on Amazon or whatnot.

Only worth it if you don't have the money now, IMO.

Exactly, I don't think that I've ever paid more than $35 for a year of XBL. Well, not in the past two or three years anyway.

This deal is pretty good for someone in a jam. It's certainly much better than what you would pay in interest if you bought it on a credit card. It just isnt for me.

If you think it's easy to just pay another $250 out of pocket for a bundle, this deal was never for you.
