This came out on the PS Blog after the show too - a date on PS Plus for Vita:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/...me-collection/

But on the whole, yeah, a whole lot of non-news from this presser (at least as it relates to us here in the States, anyway)

Sony has really fallen a lot and this conference just shows it. 6 years in and the hardware for the PS3 is above $250.

Nothing new was shown for the Vita either, we have seen all this stuff already. They kept pushing PS1 classics, at this point who care.
Personally I feel the VITA is already on deaths door. We'll see though. I know it is for me.

Sony hasn't "fallen" George. They have great hardware and the best first party support this gen. They don't dominate like they used to, no, but some of that is just credit to MS for recognizing a growing market of online gamers. Sony is fine, and besides, we always look at these things through our American lenses. Worldwide, and more specifically Japan, the PS3 is the top selling console.

Now, having said all that, I do think the new slim model could have been priced lower, and, as you well know, I think the Vita, much like the PSP was, is just sort of... there.

You have to remember, the TGS is for Japan, not America. They market it to what they like over there. And their strategy has been no different than Nintendo in Japan, and they flourish with it.

We are a different market, so do not expect wonders at a TGS. We have CES and E3, etc.

It just came out, we heard the same thing about the 3DS until they panicked with a fast price drop and not until recently games pumping out. Games are going to come, along with sweet features and inter-connectivity. I am surprised to hear this however, considering sports games have been nothing but fantastic on this thing.

Re: Sony 2012 TGS Press Conference

PR from this announcement has probably been a little less than ideal: Sony Unveils Smaller, More Expensive PlayStation 3

I'm not sure anyone could have predicted they would have announced a redesigned console with a higher price tag, and the only price drop of the session was for the PSP.

The primary difference here is Nintendo actually did something about sales. Sony has come across more like the Iraqi information minister, sales are fine, sales are what are expected, sales are fine... and then revises sales targets, releases more colors.

The 3DS currently is showing that there is still plenty of money to be made in the handheld market if you price the hardware right and have software to support it.
