I'm determined to build a MAME cabinet eventually so that my kids can grow up with some of those games.

Atari 2600. One button and a very sore thumb.
Vanguard, Megamania, Bezerk. Those were my favorites.

Can't forget though playing Oregon Trail in elementary school on the computer. I know I wasn't the only one.

Let me tell you. I'm the Technology Director at my school. I found an old Oregon Trail disc in a bag of old crap. It was a version from like 96 (which is late for me, I was playing it in the 80s).

THE KIDS LOVE IT! When they finish projects and have a few minutes. They could go to numerous approved sites but they keep going back to Oregon Trail. They love when their friends get Dysentery (especially now that they know what it is).

Weird addictive that game is. If I die from a snake bite one more time....at least I'm not messing myself with virtual dysentery, they would never let me live that down

My favorite teacher of all time was my school newspaper teacher back in 95. He was slick and got 8 top end Compaq computers donated and he let us load Doom and Wolfenstein on it. Changed my world.

We were also the first class to have Internet and had 28k modems. I can root my addiction to the Internet to this time.

My family had a CalecoVision before I was born, so I started with that. I played my sister's Game Gear for a while before I finally got my first console as a gift from my parents, a Sega Genesis. (It was a GOAT bundle, too -- Sonic the Hedgehog, with a free mail-in rebate for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.)

Re: Giving thanks: How did you get your start in gaming?

I started back in the early 90's maybe 1990 or 91. The first video game I ever played was Mike Tyson Punch Out then I think Techmo Bowl on Nintendo. We could not afford a video game system for a while so my brother and I use to always walk over our friends home to play their games. The first video game system I had was the Super Nintendo.
I remember this one friend that lived I our neighborhood use to get all the new systems and games, on the weekends my brother and I and a few more friends in the neighborhood use to spend all day at his house playing games, NES, Game Boy, Sega, Sega CD, Super Nintendo, Play Station, I mean he had it all and he had central air condition! something we didn't have and we lived in the south, it was good times over his house.

Anyone here own an Atari Lynx? I thought it was awesome that I could play it left handed which i did. Only had two games though, Electrocop and California Games but I played them all the time.
