Best lefty out of the pen?
Right now I have 2 leftys in my pen. I find that works best for me. They are Charlie furnish, very solid pitcher and rated as 82. His starts atm for me are 11.2 IP 1.54 ERA 13 SO 0.43 WHIP AND BATTING AVERAGE AGAINST IS .132. He ain't moving. I also have Andrew miller, only 2.2 IP with a 13.5 ERA 2 SO 1.88 WHIP and a average of .333. Now obviously I haven't gotten much time with miller but the 3 times I've put him in he has gotten rocked. I also don't like the 3 pitch selection he has. As of right now I'm thinking of selling miller and upgrading to Sean Doolittle. Was wondering if that's wise or if I should look elsewhere. All my other pen arms are righties with sun 1.75 era with Trevor rosenthole closing for me.Tags: None -

Sean Doolittle or Arnoldo's chapman. Both look to be very good leftys and rated 90 and 19 respectively and both selling for around 12k -
Re: Best lefty out of the pen?
I love both of them, but if they are selling for the same price, go with Chapman. He is damn near unhittable.Comment

Doolittle is awesome for me too. 0 earned runs in about 50 innings lol. Cotts is a nice situational lefty for me also.Comment

Furbush is really underrated. I think I've pitched like thirty innings with him and have given up one run.Comment

Fastball, changeup, slider is all you need in this game. Doolittle has great ratings in all three pitch types.
He will give up home runs from time to time (74 HR/9 rating), but that's the only way anyone has scored on him so far for me.
I completed the A's collection to get Dennis Eckersley, but as it turns out, I rarely use Eck, because Doolittle is so much better.Attached FilesLast edited by jyoung; 05-11-2015, 12:11 PM.Comment

Re: Best lefty out of the pen?
Tony Watson is my best preforming LH reliever so far.
Great control with a 94FB. 92 sinker that breaks 88, its looks like it drops 2ft and at 92 mph it always gets swung at out of the strike zone. Best pitch is a slider that breaks forever. With his delivery its starts at the batters body before breaking outside the zone. Throws a 85CH which is too fast but with a 94 break on it and 85 control you will usually put it where ever you want.
A cheap option is Tim Collins. 93FB. 83 CH with 94 break. 74CV with 99 break. Average control on all pitches and a K/9 rating of 84!Comment

Re: Best lefty out of the pen?
I do notice that. I don't go high heat late in counts my normal statigy is about 60% of the time I go fastball up and in trying to hit that corner. 95% of the time that works out as a strike be it hitting the corner or or just outside and they are singing at it. I try and get the othe strike on off speed a lot and if I don't get the out after 3 more pitches of off speed stuff I'll give them another fast ball up and in. If by some grace of God they were ready for it its slider/curve out of the zone for the out.
Only thing I don't like about chap and Doolittle is them only having 3 pitches. Though I'm sure they are effective I want my options open. I have ye to use them yet but I'll be testing them both out tonight.Comment
