    Battle Royale Winners?

Entering The Show '16 I hoped to complete a Battle Royale bracket and get that 20 win reward.

Unfortunately due to bad luck or lack of skill I have not completed a Battle Royale Tournament.

Who here has ever completed and won a Battle Royale?

If you did, what was your reward at the end?
    What was your team like?

If you haven't (like me), how far did you get?

One time I got 12 wins with 1 loss. Got to 7-8 a couple of times.

Hoping I can get there in '17!

I really hate battle royal.. I probably played a good 20 or 25 times this year. Best i ever got was like 8 wins. I usually lose after the 1st 3 wins then, i kind of just dont care at that point. I stoped wasting the 1500 buy in, cause that free pack is a bunch of garbage.

Yeah same as you. I stopped playing after 25 or so attempts. I just love the draft and the idea of winning it all. But it is very hard and usually ends up being a waste of stubs that could've bought some other cards in the market.

When one of your biggest problems in games is the out of control bunting and stealing, 3 inning games only compounds that ten fold.

Very true. I rarely played online but in '16 when I did, I played mostly BR. Mainly because when playing 9 Inning DD games you are not guaranteed a good card even if you win 10 games in a row for example. But in BR you are guaranteed a good card based on how many wins you get.

But the 3-inning nature of BR makes it very difficult, add in the randomness of baseball along with cheesers and just bad luck, it ends up being a waste of 1500 stubs.

However, when I do play 9 inning DD games I have a much better record than I do in BR. This is why I'm excited for '17 and the Seasons in DD. The more 9 innings DD games you win, you are guaranteed a good card. I doubt I'll even touch BR.

I got to 12-0 3 times but I never did make it to 20 wins although I did get to 17 once.

Got to 20 wins twice... Both times I drafted pretty good teams, but im struggling to remember all the players I won on the two 20 win runs. I know one of them I got Rangers A-Rod, Boston Tiant and Saberhagen. Have got 12 wins probably over 20 times, but 20 just twice. Many times, after my 12th win I would just forfeit if my 20 win reward was garbage (it often was)

It's not impossible, but you do have to be able to both pitch and hit in the clutch. Consistently.

As far as bunting goes, it doesn't really make sense to do it in BR. I can only speak for myself but in a 3 inning game (on all-star difficulty, mind you) I'm trying to score as many runs as possible. If I get a man on, I have a way higher percentage swinging him home and adding on, especially over the course of 20 games. Some kids I play against do bunt, but I adjust my defense and can get MOST of them out.

While I like the idea of BR, it is really a sharks and minnows scenario (and I am well aware I am the minnow). The reality is that without the minnows no one would ever be able to get to 20 because it would just be the best players against each other all day long. They could improve the payoff for the minnows by making the early awards a bit better (say a silver after 3 wins).

I've gone 20-0 twice, and 20-1 a few other times. Honestly, I didn't really "earn" most of those runs. I usually got lucky with somewhere between 4-6 instaquits to help me along. On my best run, I got Beltran TWICE: first, as my 12-0 bonus card, and got him again as my 20w reward. That run effectively financed the rest of my team and I pretty much stopped flipping after that.

I usually try to draft my teams with a strong bullpen, and I use alot of LRL or RLR protections in my lineup to get good matchups and/or force my opponent to burn out their bullpen.

Really liked the idea of the draft, but I never play online. Wished they would have made a 1P version of BR for this year...

I agree. Wish there was some offline BR mode. I love the draft, it's the best part. But online play is always cheapish, especially in 3 inning games.

But this year I plan on playing a lot of head-to-head matchups because they actually mean something with seasons. And in the past I have a much better record in 9 inning games than 3 innings.

I loved the idea of BR. I played maybe 20 times or so. Most wins i ever had was 9. This was before the new patch changing the rewards. My 6 win reward was flashback Walker... 12 win reward would have been FB Sizemore when he was worth around 100k..

I enjoy playing BR, but 3 inning games against many ppl were so cheesey. Alot of my opponents would bunt cheese to win..
This yr should be a little different since bunting is much more difficult. I prob still wont focus on this that much since H2h actually means something this yr. I look forward in spending loads of time in h2h seasons. My GF will not be happy at least for the first month of launch lol

                          Re: Battle Royale Winners?

I never had better than a 3 or 4 game win streak until just recently and I attribute all of that luck to facing a lot of people who had only played 15-60 games and were clearly new to the whole thing and pretty introductory in their pitching strategy and what not. But I also think I actually had a pretty damn good team, and still only got 8 wins (rewards were a bronze and live series Yasmani Grandal with 80 overall Reggie Jackson up next before I lost to a guy that used Rockies as his home field so we had a 3-5 1st inning then he put one more in in the 2nd, and my team was mostly about solid defense and contact. I can remember the whole team still I enjoyed them so much:

                          1 LF Joe Carter
                          2 SS Starlin Castro
                          3 CF Jim Edmonds
                          4 1B Jeff Bagwell
                          5 RF Mark Trumbo
                          6 C Brian McCann (92 overall version)
                          7 3B Nick Castellanos
                          8 2B Darwin Barney

                          Pitchers
always had either Giotolo or Tyler Matzek start, went 6-1 with Matzek and my first loss was with Jon Lester, my best overall starter at 75.

Off the pine I had Fernando Rodney, Joaquin Benoit, Luis Severino, Javier Lopez and Corey Knebel who were all pretty reliable except Rodney had a tendency to give up long near-homers.

I hit around .500 with every player other than Barney and Bagwell (who I only ever got one hit with ironically) and I enjoyed my bench a lot too: Denard Span, Matt Kemp, Mike Aviles, Seth Smith. It was a great draft, I was bummed I couldn't take those guys to at least the legend reward tier.

I can tell BR is mostly a waste of stubs but I really enjoy the draft process and getting to try out new cards, plus it might've just been me but I never noticed THAT MUCH cheese compared to any other random game of DD.

Yeah basically the only thing I played online last year was BR (I like the draft more than the games), but I never saw that much cheese compared to normal.

My entire strategy was always to tank starting pitching (my first draft this year I took 5 of the non-coloured terrible guys), and then just have 5-6 silver+ relievers that I would start using a batter or two in. And then it was luck to end up with some good platoons for the lesser position players.
