Tried that all that does is make pitcher look at base

You gotta hold it while you pitch

Yeah, it's L2. You have to hold it before starting your windup. If you hold it for more than like 2 seconds without pitching, the pitcher will look at the runner. Keep in mind that you can still pitch while looking at the runner.
